Who's on everyone's free agent wishlist? I don't think the Yankees will sign anyone of note, but there's a nonzero chance they sign EE to fill out DH and one of Chapman/Jansen to close. Any other moves will probably be trades or something

I hope the Phils sign Greg Holland, Carlos Gomez, Luis Valbuena, and a couple starting pitchers. Andrew Cashner, maybe?

The Phillies are probably not going to have an action-packed offseason. Though they did already acquire Pat Neshek, which I guess is kind of cool.

The Phils just acquired Howie Kendrick.

Darin Ruf and Darnell Sweeney are going to the Dodgers.

Yeah, that's a thing.

The more I think about it the more I like it. Kendrick seems like a good bounce-back candidate and Sweeney and Ruf were never going to amount to anything.

Just when you think the Phillies are not being run by idiots, stuff like this happens. I guess Baseball Ops and PR are separate departments.

Reports are out of potential CBA strife.

I can't imagine they won't get it done. I mean, what kind of third-rate bush league would come off a terrific season where the longest-suffering franchise finally won the big one in a series everyone was watching, look poised to enjoy a major surge in popularity across the continent, and piss it all away on a meaningless work stoppage? That sort of thing seems like it would tank the league's public image and reduce revenue for decades to come, not to mention cause animosity with the union that would result in more, and worse, work stoppages in the future. No major league would be ridiculous enough to actually do that, right?

...

Right?

You can question whether the NHL isn't a third-rate bush league.

Cody Asche just got DFA'd

This is basically a whole lot of nothing. Asche is basically a AAAA guy who basically played himself off the team.

David Rollins, who the Phils claimed, is now in his fourth organization in the last two weeks. I suspect it won't be his last move this offseason.

The Rays of all teams signed Wilson Ramos.

2 years, $12.5 million, heavily incentive-laden

Sounds like it's roughly a $6.1 million AAV, which could end up being an incredible steal by the end of it. Also two club option years for 2022 and 2023. I like it.

I guess the lesson is, if the Phillies Rule 5 a center fielder from your team, he's going to be pretty good.

They also recently picked Ender Inciarte before returning him.

Herrera wasn't even a center-fielder in the minors, he played mostly 2B along with a bit of SS. The Phillies moved him to CF when he jumped to the majors.

The Phillies gave up Josh Tobias, a 24 year old who just finished a season in A+, for Buchholz. A couple of the Phils writers ranked him as roughly the 40th best prospect in the Phils system.

e: The rotation looks something like Hellickson, Nola, Velasquez, Eickhoff, and Buchholz, with Eflin and Thompson likely first in line when Nola's elbow explodes and Buchholz blows.

It sounds like Quintana to the Pirates, McCutchen to the Yankees, and a shitload of prospects to the White Sox.

Glasnow, Rutherford, Newman, and one of Andujar or Diaz would be a great return for Quintana.

I'm actually curious about this bit. Does that actually work well, and how do you go about setting it up so it plays that way? I'd love to listen to the Phillies radio broadcast while watching the game next season, because the Phils radio announcers are better than their TV guys.

Their lineup could actually look not completely terrible this year, which is something. I guess something to the effect of:

CF - Odubel Herrera
2B - Cesar Hernandez
RF - Michael Saunders
3B - Maikel Franco
1B - Tommy Joseph
LF - Howie Kendrick
C - Cameron Rupp
SS - Freddy Galvis
P

That isn't great, but it's a hell of a lot better than it was. With a shitload of prospects coming up soon this team could actually be good in a couple years.
