i dunno guys, the only good pro-slavery dude is a dead pro-slavery dude imho...incidentally, the lore goes to great pains to depict batarian civilization as being extremely pro-slavery as a whole, to the point of conflict with humanity and the broader council iirc

like, i can see being weirded out by 'kill all batarians memes,' even the down-trodden of omega, but you're probably better off remembering that bioware writing is wretchedly lazy and sloppy enough that most species (except humanity, with other species being baffled by our diversity) just have a single governing body that happens to embody and define them as a whole, except for the misfits like the krogan poet, and with batarians it's their dumb, over-the-top kidnapper's space confederate hegemony

slavery is a deeply ingrained part of batarian culture. by asking batarians to stop kidnapping and enslaving people, it is actually you who is being intolerant

The batarian hegemony is depicted as an extremely centralized authoritarian command economy. Do you even read the loving codex, bro

Is the virmire mission a genocide? It’s incredible how many you get to do in the trilogy.

Shepard should have been tried and executed at the end, just like Kojima planned to do Snake.

another low point of ME3 is how they bungle the opening and don't do Shepard on trial in the game. Going directly from the ending of ME2 to the opening of ME3 is one of the weirdest whiplashes in quality in the entire series

What planet was space Somalia then? I must be getting it mixed up with one of the Terminus System planets from ME2 because I know there's one where they said that the Council had declared it a no fly zone because it was so hosed.

When in doubt, err on the side of Awesome!

Hackett knew when he sent Shepard in that there was going to be an explosion. He just didn't know Shepard was going to zoom past WMD and go straight for "Galactic Gender Reveal" levels of destruction.

I do think that a lot about the Batarians seems to evoke post-9/11 anti-muslim hysteria, although it's not like the game actually specifically equates them with muslims.

Slavery is bad, but there's also that one Asari slaver on Illum trying to get a quarian into a slave contract, so it's not an exclusive Batarian thing.

There was no planet like that. The Terminus systems is a loosely affiliated area not directly controlled by any of the major powers. The council was in the process of using Humans to tame the Terminus Systems (previously they were using the Batarians) since Humans were so keen to colonize new worlds.

Generic American posted:

Yeah, it was the Yahg, but it wasn't because it was space Somalia. It was because the Yahg are extremely hierarchical and domineering so when the visiting Council ambassadors didn't respond properly and acted as equals the Yahg took offense and effortlessly killed them. Their world was declared off limits because uplifting them would be a disaster for the current powers.

I can remember the moment I knew ME3 was not going to be on the same level as ME2, and it was that awful opening speech Shepard gives to some war committee or something. It's on the exact same level of quality as this speech:

It'd be funnier I think if they kept the shots, but covered the pertinent areas of the screen with huge black bars. The idea that changing some camera angles to be less gratuitously titillating constitutes "censorship" is so laughable that BioWare should really go all-in on upsetting these miserable cretins.
