Man, now I feel like a jerk for saying that you missed that one powerup that didn't exist and I was misremembering. If I started replaying one days sooner and realized my mistake, I could have posted my correction before you started recording. Good to hear that you updated to 1.1. Like you said, there's a glitch with the gravity suit that was fixed. Also, there's some end of game convenience added for backtracking. Edit: And in regards to the line from Metroid Prime that you were trying to remember: "Science team has vapor for brains." General Revil fucked around with this message at 08:47 on Jan 1, 2017 |

The scan says the outer armor is vulnerable to concussive blasts. But it was odd that it killed the core all the same. It seems that beating the armor plate makes it a lot more of a bastard though, so just dodging and waiting for good chances to damage it was a good idea.

Maple and I both say that the giant fish monster is the first boss of Federation Force. It turns out we were both wrong: the power core in the third mission was a boss, but it was so unremarkable that we totally forgot it existed. I only just realized that now, rewatching this episode. And I still can't believe the gall of the game to keep bringing up Samus Aran doing stuff on the side. How can this game dare to call itself "Metroid Prime" when there's nothing Metroid about it?

# ? Jan 7, 2017 01:41 |

Yes The boss scan clearly said that it had two sets of armor: an outer layer that's resistant to energy weapons and the inner shield that stops concussive weapons. Remember that Samus's Dark Link analogue isn't stupid and does not care about mirror moves (you even mentioned the SA-X in video )

I really don't like when games that are designed for multiplayer have a single player mode that does nothing to actually balance the game for a single player experience. Just imagine how much more annoying federation force could be without the lone wolf mod.

I suspect the external armor is invulnerable to beam damage and the internal armor (that beam grid around the weakpoint) is invulnerable to missiles.

I'm sorry! iirc it was 2 or 3 in the morning during that recording and my reading comprehension was a little spotty. I'll be sure to read the logs more thoroughly in the future.

The tester is hard, but he's even harder if you read his log incorrectly. You probably would have been better off if you hadn't read it. That way, when you heard the plinking noise that your guns weren't doing any damage, you probably would have tried using missiles. Aside from the painfully slow movement speed to get to the boss, that boss looked really exciting. Do you bump into each other when you play multiplayer, because that would be incredibly annoying on a small platform like here. I want to talk about the idea of making your own weak point on a boss, but I'll save it for later since it's the middle of the night here.

To hype up the next episode of Federation Force (if such a thing can be done), Olive Branch and I just recorded the next few episodes and honestly, that a game could make such baffling level in 2016 is beyond thought. This is poo poo we should have figured out during the N64 days. And it's physically painful. Maple Leaf fucked around with this message at 09:19 on Jan 11, 2017 |

I actually stopped watching Federation Force after the third episode or so. Not your fault, I just couldn't keep my attention on the game at all. Still following the AM2R LP with interest, though.

And I don't blame you! Not only is MP:FF not any good, but, like he and I brought up at least once before, it's just bland and boring as opposed to offensive, so there's nothing to get riled up over. This next level, though, might just be what we've been waiting for. It's so bad.

What's going to happen, are we going to meet Samus in person and it's Other M Samus?

I just watched the fifth and sixth episodes of MP:FF and in the fifth ep, one of you asked if Samus talked about the Omega Pirate to the Galactic Federation or if Next Level was just winging it on the canon a la Other M. Not only did she tell them, one of the Marines mentions how the Space Pirates were the size of the Omega Pirates... in the previous episode! Don't worry, I'm not holding that against you. I'll chalk it up to the time between the recording sessions as well as the fact that MP:FF is a big pile of "meh." At least Next Level has more respect for Metroid Prime than Sakamoto.

I'm all caught up with Federation Force. I'm amazed that it took until the seventh mission for the first proper boss fight. That's another stark departure from a lot of Metroid games- Super Metroid, Prime 1, and Prime 3 all had a boss monster in their intro sections. It's a great way to build a sense of urgency about the game ahead. At this point, I'm still not sure if there's any big menace on the horizon. I'll give MP:FF credit, though- I liked that Space Pirate log hinting that they're not the ones behind the missing Federation ship. Also, the introductory cutscene says that it takes place after Prime 3. Again, chalking that up to the game being forgettable throughout.

Samus is out there blasting Space Pirates and discovering a massive weapon they want to build, and you're stuck escorting a power cell cart in a mission not at all optimized for one player. Federation Force actively hates you for buying and playing it.

I'm torn on that escort mission. It was painful to watch, but I can see how it could be an interesting concept if you had 4 players. Like you said, two people pushing one cart each, two people escorting. As for AM2R, despite reading the log slowly and carefully, you did miss that the tread could be destroyed. That would have saved you a few seconds and probably let you have escaped.

Oh noo, you died in that cutscene I played through AM2R myself a week ago on Hard difficulty and had a blast doing it since it was really challenging. I've never seen Federation Force before I found your LP and my goodness, what has this series devolved into? Apologies if someone already asked this earlier in the thread, but if you feel like doing more Metroid games after you've completed AM2R have you played through Super Zero Mission? It's my favorite Super Metroid ROM hack and I think it deserves a larger audience. I'd say AM2R beats it quality-wise what with the better engine and all, but give it a try sometime if you haven't.

Reggie has possibly hinted that a new Metroid and Mother 3 would be out within a year from now. I'll believe it when I see it, since Metroid is a low-priority franchise for Nintendo and there's a lot of work to be done for Mother 3 unless they take up Tomato's offer to use his translation for free.

That does kind of exemplifies the obsessive fanboy mindset, doesn't it? Metroid Zero Mission is not a bad hack as these things go, but it's ridiculously gigantic compared to its source material, and it's easy to spend a lot of time lost. If you want to play a good Super Metroid hack, look to Eris, which has fantastic map design, a not-excessive size, and mostly reasonable challenge levels, excepting solely the Botwoon fight.

Yeah the reviewer is basically an idiot (that Grip statement is especially dumb since the hack also introduces Fusion/Zero Mission style Shinesparking which is cool and good), but the hack is nice regardless. I like all Metroid games!
