Hand Knit posted:What reasons did they give for this? Does black have that much play up the middle? I apologise, I really don't understand enough to give a informed opinion here, but they were definitely talking about black exploiting the middle. E: The onscreen computer briefly jumped to 18% Carlsen before going back to 11-11 when Karjakin made the move. TheRat fucked around with this message at 21:43 on Nov 15, 2016 |

I really like Svidler but ChessNetwork's stream on twitch seems nicer.

I can sorta see how white's bishop on a2 is stuffed, and black has good pressure on e4 while white's knights have hosed off.

I don't really like bishop x h6 as a white player just aesthetically it seems off and concedes the center, but karjakin doesn't need my take on the matter lol

Magnus's knight placement is so good

Haha Jesus Hansen's face on that bishop c4

Karjakin trades on c4 and accepts a terminal weakness on b2. That is... risky.

Norwegian TV again saying Karjakin made a bad move in Bxc4, they are saying he must have missed something and have just given up his bishops

The c4 move is terrible

Karjakin's minor pieces are kind of awful right now.

Karjakin is certainly living up to his reputation as a great defender.

Man Karjakin is probably going to recover another draw from a difficult position this is fascinating

Once he gets into the computer moves (open board) he really makes hardly any inaccuracies

Karjakin's gonna have to do some work to convince me that the h4 he just played isn't horrible. I guess Kh5 is met with Be7, but in principle it seems like he's just making holes.

Why did carlsen trade off his rook?

Is every game in this series going to be Karjakin putting himself behind and clawing his way to a draw* *I didn't catch any of g2 so maybe it was different

Elyv posted:Is every game in this series going to be Karjakin putting himself behind and clawing his way to a draw* Probably. It's a mix of style and strategy. Carlsen likes to play for these long drawn out grinding games, whereas Karjakin's calling card is his defensive play. At the same time, one of Carlsen's big advantages is much better physical fitness, so he's probably going to make every game as long and torturous as possible, with the idea that Karjakin will run out of gas (if not in the current game, then in a later one) before he does.

I'm not good at chess, and I don't understand what's happening beyond "Karjakin is holding on for a draw" and "Carlsen is going balls deep with his Bishops".
