Oh hey, a Costco thread. Awesome.

Ours recently got rid of the third party liquor store, and now cells beer and liquor on the main floor. Definitely an improvement in the selection over third party.

Also, a few visits ago saw someone eating a pile of onions and relish covered in ketchup off of a drink lid.

My wife and I have really enjoyed our 2010 Fit, but right now we have two kids in cars seats in the back, and I (6’1”) can’t comfortably ride in the passenger seat with a rear facing car seat behind the passenger seat. We’re considering a new car, but we really like our fit.

Self checkouts are always the slowest lines in regular supermarkets too. It's like anyone over 50 has no clue how to use it.

Granted, I only have a n of 1 for the Everett, MA Costco, but I think the self service kiosks have really decreased the wait. A weekend 12pm food court visit went from a 5-15 minute line, to food in 2-3 minutes. Although I may be the idiot for accidentally ordering a slice of pepperoni for my vegetarian wife. Luckily it only took a couple minutes to correct my error and get a slice of cheese for her.

I've never actually ordered food directly from the food court, I always bought my poo poo from the cashier and then it's maybe 3 minutes from walking up to the pickup line and getting my food if there are other people ahead of me.

This is something I didn’t know was possible, until I saw it on this thread, but the next time We went to Costco the kiosks were there.

The Hatch chiles can be frozen. Freeze them in ice cube trays or in small containers so they can be portioned easily after they're frozen.

This, it’s the only way we don’t end up dumping half of any salsa we buy from Costco.

Has anyone been to church in Everett, MA lately? How’s the stock? Are there crowds/lines? We’re overdue for a trip.

I actually have a question I've been wondering for a while. How does Costco allow insta cart shoppers at all? All the articles I read about the membership indicate to me that any lost profit on product is balanced by the membership fees on a whole, so now if you concentrate a lot more product sale on a few memberships doesn't that break the model?

We did an InstaCart order from Costco a few weeks ago, and had to enter our member ID.

I went to church in Everett, MA this morning. It wasn’t too crowded when I was there. Everyone was wearing masks (employees and customers), there was a notable absence of kids, and there was all of the expected plexiglass, tape on the floor, and wiping down of cart handles.

Almost everything on the list was in stock, or an easy substitution. I only walked out without liquid hand soap refills, sanitizing wipes (as expected), and canned black beans.

There were plenty of paper goods: toilet paper (unfortunately only Charmin, not Kirkland), paper towels, diapers, and wipes. Plentiful meat in stock (wife’s a vegetarian and does all of the cooking so irrelevant for us). The only that seemed a bit off was the canned goods, there were plenty, but the selection was off.

We usually go once a month. Our last trip was in February plus a small InstaCart order in March, and the bill reflected that. The grand total was $483 ($415 without booze). I had to buy most of our regular staples, that we usually get every other or every third trip. I doubled up on coffee, floss, and snacks for the kids. The only unusual purchase was the 25 lb bag of flour since my wife has been on a baking spree.

I got a pie on the way out to take home to the family for lunch. The guy running the register said they had the go ahead to start serving slices on Monday.

Stone is hit or miss. But i look for specific styles of beer anyway. My local costco has a lacking craft beer selection. Ive been to others up north that had a surprising amount of craft brew (from the bigger breweries)

Our Costco (Everett, MA) doesn’t have a huge beer selection, but there’s always a good number of local and regional craft beers to choose from. Now of only they’d refrigerate the unfiltered IPAs.

One of the things I miss most about pre-COVID Costco is how much our son loved getting the smiley face drawn on our receipt by the receipt checker. Now it’s just solo trips for me.

The biggest issue I have with either is that they are far from health foods - the sodium content especially. Marginally healthier than beef, but that’s the meat I eat by far the least of already.

I don’t think being healthier is the primary purpose of the convincing fake meats. I read an article a few years ago about the founder of Impossible Foods, and his primary purpose was to reduce the environmental impact of raising livestock.

Do you shop in MA? There’s a Costco literally right by the Teddie factory, as in- you have to go through the same rotary to go to either of them (I’m not a huge Teddie fan myself, sorry :( )

Hmmm, never realized that’s where the factory was. I knew they sold beer brewed down the street, I didn’t realize they could say the same about peanut butter.

Edit: now my wife’s calling me blind because I’ve never noticed the sign.

This. We rented a carpet cleaner from Home Depot after our son puked on the carpet, then a couple years later after a big smoothie spill, and will be renting another one this weekend after a poop on the carpet incident yesterday when our 2 year old’s diaper was loose. Depending on how long you have it it’s $25-50.

Where are you getting them? I’ve only been able to get them the one weekend a year a local PYO orchard’s heirloom trees are open for picking. This last fall the trees were already picked over and we only managed to get two.

I bought the same brand bone China from 2 years ago for my full plate/bowl sets. They are fantastic, look great, sturdy and give off the air of "you have your poo poo together to have a full set of matching dinnerware".

What does the pattern look like, and is it dishwasher safe on a normal cycle?

I have a really negative opinion of China because of the ugly, overly ornate and flowery patterns that my grandparents had, and being made to help hand wash it as a kid.

I’m sure that’s not justified, I’ve just never bothered to look into it as an adult.

Have any goons gotten these lights?

We're thinking of doing some exterior lighting around our pergola and then towards our back door. Reviews on the site and from videos around Youtube sound good but wanting a congregation perspective before pulling the trigger

We have two strands along the perimeter of our small backyard. We like them, bright, no need to use our outdoor flood light when they’re on. Would recommend.
