Went to the 'co after procrastinating for weeks. Normally, my nearest one is crazy: impossible parking, slow people crowding every isle, etc. Today, they limited the number of people in the store, so had to wait in line. Pretty quick, got in, place felt empty. Fast to get around, no slow oldies clogging the isles, short wait at checkout, best trip in a long time. Also, I guess lots of folks didn't want to wait, so easy parking too. Despite being sold out of some items, and rationing others, 10/10 would shop during panic buying crisis again.

StormDrain posted:Do you guys feel a little guilty if you buy something that's not essential? I stopped to look at spring bulbs and it's like, I didn't come here for this so I shouldn't buy them. Just get what you need to get through this. On the other hand, if I'm not supposed to buy it don't put it out. I didn't even glance at the housewares tools and sports aisles, and just a peek at the seasonal stuff but no I don't need BBQ stuff. I don't count alcohol and junk food as essential, but I buy it when I go grocery shopping. If you are at a store, you are already exposed/exposing others, so just shop whatever they have, just don't make special trips/stops for the non essentials. Try not to cough on everything or manhandle every item or anything though.

Still no TP at my Costco, but had a whole wall of paper towels and no limits. Had to cave and buy the lovely TP at Safeway (who only had 1 brand in stock, and uh, its not a brand I have ever seen)

If I still lived 2 blocks away, I would totally do this. Sadly, I am an hour and a half drive now, so less feasible to get there during work days for me.

They only had Four Cheese, so when this gets finished in a couple months I'll try the Pepperoni one next. If you don't mind some extra calories, sprinkle some brewer's yeast on top of the four cheese pizzas before baking. It's amazing.

My Costco actually put out cones blocking the center lane that lets you jump pumps...it's really annoying because now you have to wait, and I swear the back pump is always a dude with a giant tank while the front are like little economy cars.

Meaty Ore posted:When I need fancy mushrooms for cooking, I usually buy dried ones and re-hydrate them. The other day at Costco I saw 1-pound packages of fresh chanterelles in the refrigerated section, cheaper than buying the equivalent weight in dried ones elsewhere. I was going to pick some up, then realized I didn't have anything to cook that was going to require a whole goddamned pound of chanterelle mushrooms. Make dashi, then cook with that. Can be done vegetarian/vegan if desired. typically done with shitake, but works with other mushrooms too. Great for using the last mushrooms when you realize you gotta do something or they will go bad.

I have never heard word one about putting stuff on the belt. I always put little stuff on the belt, any questionable sized/large stuff stays in the cart. I also have a toddler in tow, so having him help put stuff on the belt keeps him occupied while we wait, and Costco cashiers are way more tolerant about the kiddo than lots of other stores I go to Do the new self checkouts not have a price gun? I haven't used one in over a decade, but I swear the Costco I used to go to in Jersey had a price gun for the big stuff.

Picked up a bottle of sake from Costco for Valentine's day after being indecisive over the wine selection. I know squat about sake, but it was pretty tasty, especially at the price. Definitely gonna pick up more.

If you do it chilled, they are serious about lightly chilled. We had ours in the fridge for 2 days and needed to let it warm a bit to get the best flavor.

priznat posted:Thinkin bout getting into battery powered yard tools, how are the Greenworks ones that costco sells online? Probably will start out with a chainsaw because I don’t have one already but as I expand I would eventually want to replace my gas mower (which frankly will not die out of spite I think) For battery powered, it's probably worth upgrading to a bigger brand of you can afford it. We use the whole line of Stihl battery equipment where I work and I love that drat chainsaw. You aren't gonna cut anything huge with it, but if you are limbing and what not, it's great. We use the hedgers, weed eaters, and mowers too, and really like them. Worth upgrading to the larger batteries if you have a lot of work to do though. And the difference between stuff from even two years ago and now is crazy, way more power and better batteries. For real saw talk though: if you need bigger cuts done, plug in is better (Makita and Worx both do a good one) gas is best, and if you aren't going to cut a lot, just rent or borrow one.

It's not just the hard pulls-if you took out a mortgage, there seems to be an impact if you have a period of time that your principle is higher than your loan amount was (frequently due to early interest accrual). Get those first few months of home ownership/refinance over to get out of that time frame, and you'll have much better luck getting cards and decent credit lines.

Walked in the customer service/food court door today (I have a toddler who always has to pee before shopping) and they asked for our card. The guy was cool, and as my husband fumbled with his wallet to get the card, he was like, "go ahead we just have to ask now, but you obviously have one," but it still surprised me. Apparently no more dogs for those that don't pay the annual tithe.

??? The pharmacy is in the main part of the store there...do they really not care? I mean, I'm a member, so it really doesn't matter, just surprised me since we've never pulled the card to go in the 'out' door before.

The best thing is the croissants It sucks, but you never know what's going on. I have to drive over an hour to a Costco. The whole family comes in because of a lot of reasons surrounding that fact. We also only go once every 4-6 weeks. When we lived two blocks away from one, unless we were buying something really unwieldy, only one of us ever went. If there was something we both needed to look at, we just did it in different trips.

I am much more devout and go to church much more regularly, so I'm wanting to reverse the situation, I'll pay for the executive membership and she'll just get a free card. You can try doing it without both of you present, but it may take both of you at one time to do a straight swap without cancelling, I'm not sure My Dad and I did a swap when he visited once: we both just went up to the counter and they swap it on the back end. You don't get new cards though, so you'll have the exec, but they will still ask if you want to upgrade if you spend certain amounts .
