JOINING THE SA FORUMS WILL REMOVE THIS BIG AD, THE ANNOYING UNDERLINED ADS, AND STUPID INTERSTITIAL ADS!!!

You can: log in, read the tech support FAQ, or request your lost password. This dumb message (and those ads) will appear on every screen until you register! Get rid of this crap by registering your own SA Forums Account and joining roughly 150,000 Goons, for the one-time price of $9.95! We charge money because it costs us money per month for bills, and since we don't believe in showing ads to our users, we try to make the money back through forum registrations.

Lowtax banned me because he thought I was trolling by acting really stupid. I wasn't acting.
First off, forgive me if this is the wrong subforum to post this in. If it is, please accept my apologies and let me know where this thread belongs so I can ask a mod to move it, thanks.

So, I am really tired of my mother calling me several times a month because her computer is "slow" or "acting funny" and then tearing my hair out as I try to guide her through troubleshooting/fixing it. I also don't want to have to drive 6+ hours (or fly) to where she is to fix it in person.

I am visiting her right now for Thanksgiving (she had me fix her computer) and while I am here I would like to install a program on her computer that would let me remotely access her computer and look through it and fix it (if possible) myself.

I did some Googling for remote access programs but I'm not sure which one is good/safe. Do you goons have one to recommend? Hook me up. I do not mind paying for a program though I would prefer a one-time payment and not a subscription based thing.

Also, she knows I am looking for a way to do this and is okay with it. I asked her permission to do this and she gave it.

quote:

The account provided by Bradley, the IBM security researcher, is consistent with TeamViewer's position that the takeovers are the result of compromised passwords. Bradley said he had forgotten he had the remote login software installed on his computers, and the compromise was "most likely due to me not changing my leaked password."

if you are just doing family tech support once in a while then there's no need for an account or unattended access or whatever. have them run the quick support program and give you the id/password and then close it when you are done.

Another alternative is ScreenConnect, which has a free non commercial tier:

team viewer or join.me covers most situations nicely.

Also don't save passwords in your web browser.
