Jad

He sees Reyhana shuffle uncomfortably, possibly embarrassed over her battle-worn appearance in front of the fey. He however stands unashamed, covered in dirt with fresh blood dripping softly onto the ground from the tip of his still drawn sword. Why should he care what this woman thinks of him?

He does however become as uncomfortable as the Sister when the fey's eyes fix on him and the rush of warmth fills his body. Some minor magic, it seems. No doubt linked to the woman's odd glow about her. It makes him more rigid than relaxed.

"Who misled you?" he repeats after Zarina, his eyes fixed on the fey woman. "Why are you here and what are you to do now you are free?"

As he waits for an answer, his attention is then given to the beaten bandits as they speak of more men inside. And with the fey talking of a 'rupture' made to bring forth terrors, it would appear their next course of action is all too clear. "Another nightmare to be dealt with... Just as was feared. A good thing we arrived to deal with it then."

He looks to Shodana. As much as he may be wary of the Bey, he must still follow her orders. "It's your word we follow. Shall we enter immediately or take some time to rest and regather?"

Shodana

Turning to Jad she replies "There is no pressing need to rush into the nightmare. Let us take the time to rest and throughly secure this camp and our prisonesr." She looks Jad over "And Zarina should attend your wounds Pasha Amir..." she hesitates "or perhaps Ezra." She leans in close to Jad and whispers "Keep the Fey away from our allies as much as possible, we do not want them ensorcelled by the witch." She glances at their flushed faced hatchet murderer "Especially Reyhana".

Kasra Coriander

The bard's olive-pit eyes dance from Reyhana to the Fae, and an impish grin cracks to life in the shadow of his mutachio. "I am called Kasra and Coriander," he introduces himself with an ostentatious bow, side-stepping through their bonded bandits and coming up along Myritoesa val Eshenesra Inahana, song of Naeryndam and the flustered Sister, "One for my grandfather, and one for the herb. Both came to this land by the caravan's hump, and both are favored by Boshenians for their flavor." The bard twists his elbows, bumping the small of Reyhana's back closer to the Fae, "And this rather gore-soaked young woman is Reyhana, an ordained Sister of the Divine. Healer of hurts, giver of alms, hacker of iniquity," Kasra relieves his friend of her hatchet, wiping it clean on the inside of his tunic.

"Mayhaps the three of us can set up camp, if our Noble Bey accedes," he smirks with flushed bonhomie at Shodana, "You can tell Reyhana tales of the great Fae lands, and she can tell you parables of the Divine. Goodness and Gracious both know any bard worth his scent in salt should hear plenty of both and either."

Reyhana

She looks about, confused, only hearing the latter half of the bard's patter, and only comprehending it a moment later. She wrinkles her nose, "I'm sure I'd only bore her. Besides, you're the great storyteller. There's... no time for this, whatever it is you're up to." Reyhana looks to the others, "...right?"

Shodana

She turns languidly to Kasra, steel shod heel grinding roughly against the grit covering the igneous rock of the basin floor, she speaks bluntly "All Fae are powerful and monstrous. If you want to throw your soul away by needlessly consorting with it go ahead Kasra, but you were given fair warning."

At Ezra's comment she turns her gaze to the ragged skinny foreigner "Ezra is correct - a long rest here would be useful to replenish our energies, and I would prefer to give the bandits time to surface so that we might ambush them in dribs and drabs rather than face twenty-eight of them all together in the dark of the earth."

Kasra

Kasra presses his fingertips against his chest in an ostentatious fluttering of faux-offense, "Such calumny! Such accusation! I'll have you know, sweet Bey," Shodana's admonishment and sideways order was as close to consent as he needed to begin hefting (small) bundles of wood into a roughly camp-like formation as the others tend to the heavier lifting, "That I have never consorted , with anyone or anything, without first devising at least one justification for its dire and immediate need." He chuckles to himself and prods Reyhana with an elbow, "It would seem that our leader has reprieved us some considerable time for rest and leisure. And it is in the listening of stories that makes the strong storyteller, as my grandfather often opined."

"Can you see?"

Badlands - Ruins Entrance

Myritoesa tilts her head as she watches Reyhana momentarily fluster, brows rising slightly. “As you say.” She affirms of the sister’s supposition, before her attention is drawn to Zarina. Brow knitting in consternation, the fey woman is given long pause before she responds to the scholar. “I had sojourned here to collect the tales of mortal hearts—in my earnestness, a mortal whose songs were most remarkable led me to believe that I might find a prodigal poet…” Her lips draw to a tight frown. “…where instead, I found empty-hearted mortals seeking to fill themselves with my light.”

Turning towards the group as a whole, Myritoesa dips her head in a bow. “So for this, again, you are owed my gratitude.” Looking to Jad then, the fey woman lifts her chin and offers a curious, prim smile. “I would continue my original work—as it would seem, the joyous dawn has swept clear the sequestering stars and presented me with new hearts bristling brilliantly.”

Ezra’s attentions to the wounded go largely appreciated, while at Shodana’s command the Narkavrum guardsmen see to securing the surrendered prisoners. Collectively, the lot leave the cage quite crowded as the men and women are cloistered for their present penance. With the sun beating down on the valley, already the stink of sweat and corpses has begun to blossom in no short supply as a few errant flies have begun to buzz and flit about—though none seem to have any interest on going near to Myritoesa.

Kasra’s bow and introduction draws Myritoesa to regard him with interest. “You shine brightly, Kasra and Coriander.” She offers with a spreading smile, her eyes bright in turn; the fey woman peers then as Sister Reyhana is more formally introduced—and surreptitiously ushered nearer to her person. “Of the Divine, you say.” Myritoesa muses, nodding slowly to Kasra’s consideration on the matter. “Your tales are of great interest to me, all the more so with the demonstration in my liberation.”

Hearing Shodana’s words, Myritoesa peers to the noblewoman with a curious expression—but is seemingly nonplussed by the apparent indictment. Instead, her gaze simply seems to linger on the Bey wordlessly as others begin to capitulate on the matter of making camp.

Good gracious, sorry for the delay. We’ll call that staging for a long rest safe from incident, with present circumstances.

Kasra

Kasra waits a beat after Myritoesa explains the reason for her wandering. Puffing his chest in haughty (and counterfeit) offense, he turns to Reyhana and anyone else nearby, his face the very image of scandal, "No doubt you expected the wandering bard to have leapt and salivated, to offer a thousand and one reasons and lyrics for as to why and how such a prodigal and magnificent poet must surely be me, as we were brought here together through fate and happenstance. Perhaps I would have recounted the tale of Kamala of Kirut, who followed a vision from the Divine into mortal danger, calamity, and a cascading series of disasters - only to fulfill the prophecies visited upon her gradually, through the hewing of her spirit and the tempering of her resolve under such trials - surely I would have analogized our Dear Fae's journey with that of Kamala's, and presented myself as the prize of her sojourn? Harumph!" A tear actually beads in the corner of Coriander's left eye, and he performs an ostentatious stage crumple onto a dusty bit of stone, "To think you would consider me so base. So self-serving! So predictable!" He shoots upward, jerking a dramatic finger at Reyhana, "No, friend, deny it not! I can see the accusation burning in your gaze! But I will assuage your fears and assure my intentions: I am here only to serve this fair band. No, no, 'tis not the life of a Fae-charmed consort which awaits me, I shall admit it."

"I know a tale or two, it is true," redirecting his mummery to Myritoesa, Kasra wipes yet another tear from his eye, "But psalms and parables are far from my bailiwick - I often muddle the facts and scriptures for dramatic effect and affect, and it would serve poorly for such embellishments to sully your education on the Divine and its Divinity, oh traveler. Better you hear it from our Sister clergy," another gentle re-arrangement to place Reyhana closer to the Fae, "For who better to guide a stranger in a strange land than the shepherd? The Parable of the Five Figs, for instance - a timeless tale, redolent of wisdom and spirituality, that my bellicosity would no doubt rend, filet, and leave naught but offal on the table. It's better told by torchlight, I find, in hushed whispers." Kasra's wink at Reyhana is by no means hushed, but certainly stinks of offal.

All the talk of metaphorical butchering put the bard into a culinary mind, and he begins to prepare a cook-surface on the side of an upended archway stone. "Have we any meat? Had the bandits? Has the desert, come to think of it? This heat is murder on the constitution, and I suddenly find myself roarishly peckish and willing to surrender my second toe for fowl or oxtails."

Shodana

The Bey stares blankly at Kasra as he gives his impassioned speech. Finding herself regretting the disastrous series of life choices which had brought her to this moment, she unplugs her wineskin filled with medicinal spirits and takes a long draught.

Jad

He continues to eye Myritoesa warily as she speaks, her flowery language further enhancing the difference between them. As those around set up camp and Kasra engages the fey in conversation, Jad simply grunts and walks away.

Taking perch on a rock high enough to act as a makeshift seat, but within eyesight of Myritoesa, he sets to cleaning his sword with rags torn from the dead and sharpening the blade. Every now and then, as the whetstone scraps over metal, he looks up and watches the fey, unsure if she won't just suddenly grab a weapon and start hacking away at them all. She can say what she wants, but his distrust and caution around her will not ease for as long as she remains nearby.

Zarina

She scrutinises the curative efficacy of Ezra's magic before replenishing her own magical repertoire. "Uncooperative spirits!" she mutters under her breath while glaring down at pages of formulae. After she finally internalises her spells, she stares at Myritoesa and then addresses the Fae, "You do not seem concerned by our current proximity to your old gaoler. Are you willing to risk recapture when our objective takes us underground? I understand you owe us your freedom but it is… I suppose unusual is the correct word."

Might edit in using the scholar special ability to heal Health damage depending on the result of Ezra's Cure Wounds.

Ezra

He sought out what shade he could and sat on the ground, keeping his movements to a minimum. Although he didn't need rest, he took the opportunity to rest. When he heard Zarina speak of spirits, it caught his attention.

"Zarina, be careful of what you say about the spirits. In your cities, the spirits are weak; but out here in the wilderness they are strong. Nature gives them strength. Strength enough to be dominant over what few people wander the wilds. Be careful what you say about them. They offend easily and are hard to placate after the fact."

Sister Reyhana

Having been gathering brush, she raises her hands defensively when the overacting bard points a finger her way. Reyhana shakes her head and suppresses a laugh, "He would give his toe for a bird. One wonders what he'd offer up for something that truly mattered." The sister snaps branch and bramble from the mesa weeds to add to the supply of kindling. Looking to the fae, she bows her head, and turns attention back to her work, "I could maybe tell you of a layperson's vision of the Divine - but I am not a scholar," she nods in the direction of Reyhana, "Or a great warrior in it's name." Jad, now. Kneeling down, she strikes a flint and starts what will be a cook fire, if they're lucky, for them and the guardsmen. "But our faith here, it is like a song, like a light, for most of us anyway."

She jumps on the back of Zarina's comments, "I do not see why our... guest, should set one foot in that labyrinth. It is our duty, not hers. I do not think that... wound is a place for anyone to be."

Shodana

Relieved at Reyhana's reaction the Bey nods "As the Sister says, there is no reason to bring our "guest". It is our duty not this creature's."

Leaving the watch the creature whose existence was anathema to her religion in Jad's paranoid and capable hands. The Bey busies herself organizing a watch rotation securing the pass into the basin and the entrance to the labyrinth with barricades. She also spends some time scouting out the surroundings, and piling the corpses of the dead bandits away from the camp to make the camp more sanitary and to reduce the odds of predators wandering into the camp. Shodana does not bury them, so as to give her deity its due as well offer meat and blood to placate whatever malignant spirits may inhabit the region. With matter of immediate defense settled she begins preparation for the journey ahead.

With little emotion the Bey discretely informs each of the members of her party about her plan to ensorcel the survivors of the bandit group. She informs them the reasons behind this are many. There is a need to have a guide beneath the surface, there are too many prisoners for the guardsmen to watch over while her group descends and thinning the herd without outright killing them so that the bandits may face justice in Narkavrum was the most moral and strategically sound action they could take. In addition they need more blades to face the two dozen remaining bandits and the dispiriting effect of their own fighting against them may convince remaining bandits to surrender more readily saving the party blood and life lost.

As the day wears, the Bey enacts her plan, each bandit is brought from the cage bound and taken away from the sight of the other prisoners - the prisoners are informed that they are each to be interrogated privately. When out of sight of the remaining prisoners and under guard and bound, gagged, and with sight and sound muffled by a thick sack loosely placed about their heads the Bey begins her ritual casting on the bandit(s).

As three of the four bandits return glassy eyed to their imprisonment the Bey informs the entranced bandits that she is willing to pardon them and in fact reward them if they work against their fellows by following her orders.

After dealing with the bandits Shodana, and the night wearing on, the Bey attempts one last ritual casting of a spell which would've allowed her to instantly detect poisons for the next two days. Physically and mentally exhausted from the long march in armor, the fighting, and the hours of meticulously preparation and chanting for her rituals, she botches the casting and instead accidently casts an enormously powerful spell upon herself, the effects of which are unknown.
