Lunchmeat Larry posted:

Sapienza is great but I find it kinda weird how much of the map is wasted... outside the villa itself, there are so many shops and apartments and stuff to break into and things to find but there are only like two or three things that are actually useful or decent for the mission. I guess that's where contracts and elusive targets and escalations come in. I love this game

There are more hooks out there than you think! You can lure one of the targets out of the mansion to use some of this area, and there are a couple useful keys/disguises as well as back routes to important areas down in the extraneous harbor area. The flat up above the big town hall-y building has something useful in it as well. It's definitely not critical stuff but there are useful things there and generally signposted with incidental dialogue if you aren't using opportunities. You're correct that a lot of that space is used mainly for escalations / elusives, though.

like i said this stuff is v minor but i hope they keep adding moves and options. they just added being able to pull people off a ledge so im hopeful

Don't get used to the ledge pull, it's being removed because some exploit where people won't notice you doing it even if they're looking right at you. Their twitter said they'd probably fix it by January

they fixed this today in a patch, like about three or four hours ago.

so now anything you unlock online gets copied into your offline profile, so when their servers go down (which was a problem early on but I think hasn't happened for ages?) you can still play with your toys.

this game has less levels than Blood Money but they are much, much, much bigger and more intricate

and also I can't be the only one that thinks the later levels of blood money were not as good and while this game is not 100% consistent there aren't any bad levels. the final release of the season is up there with early favorite Sapienza for me.

the later levels of blood money are extremely win actually

the only Blood Money levels I don't really like are the Mardi Gras one (it looks cool but there's hardly anything to actually do) and the White House because it's really simple and linear. The Whitre House isn't even that bad it's just disappointing because it should be the ultimate Hitman level and it's a corridor with a forced boss fight on the way out

I really like what I've played so far but I quit because the game refuses to let me kill the guy in Paris. First I tried to disguise as a bodyguard and arrange a meeting between the target and another guy but the guy I was supposed to be escorting disappeared in the crowd and never showed up again, ruining the opportunity, and then I disguised myself as a waiter, mixed up the target's favorite drink, put rat poison in it, and stood behind the bar for 10 minutes while the target walked around the bar endlessly but never stopped for a drink.

I'm about to drop all pretense and just blow a hole in his dome

the guy who's supposed to follow you is super weird about that, which is odd because it's so scripted you'd think he'd just follow you fine. Just keep going back to check on him and make sure he's following, a bit of cajoling will do it.

I had one terrible experience with my first and only Elusive Target in Paris. I was trying to kill French Gordon Ramsey. I worked out his route and poisoned the caviar he was going to sample, and had already sampled three times because I was following him around being too underequipped/anxious to do anything. Halfway through his pre-caviar rant, he announced that he was too stressed out and was going for a cigarette and marched out of the room early. I figured I could then catch him alone, but he did not go for a cigarette, he just went to the next location on his route. He also walked past my ad hoc exploding fire extinguisher and kicked it harmlessly into a corner. I had been following him around for 20 minutes at this point so I walked into the kitchen and shot him five times and was then killed because apparently waiters are not supposed to do that

You can but you can't take the one in the lab. There's another hidden one that is specifically designed to kill one of the targets

it#s great that even the tutorial levels have obviously been very carefully and lavishly constructed. it could easily just have been a real boat and they could go "oh yeah it's a VR simulation" but they really sell the ridiculous setup with hundreds of extra actors in their top secret base

i think i'm ready to move on to Marrakesh after three days of savoring the spicy Italian sun.

my favourite moment so far is finding the VHS tape in Sapienza and it plays a ridiculous song about crying into your spaghetti bolognese and wine, but all the lyrics are actually about the various ways you can assassinate the level targets

i can never get a good score because i cant help but murder every single person i see who's alone. sometimes instead of getting the target alone i'll just wait until they're in a room with like 3 body guards or whatever and just pop pop pop dome all of them and get away without an alarm. its cool that you can do that, if your fast enough

I don't really like the new scoring system generally. I liked in the old games when you would get loads of really specific ratibgs for doing things different ways. I used to get Deranged Slayer a lot. Tom Francis wrote a cool article I agree with about it if anyone cares, the way you never find out if you got Silent Assassin after the first time you get it on a level is especially weird. I miss the newspaper articles too

I just ignore it though so w/e

also for anyone wondering what Escalations are good, the Kerner Disquiet in Paris is great

the newspaper was a good way of letting you know how bad you hosed up. i think being awarded for killing non-targets in anyway would be lame, while you can pull off some sick stuff in shootouts thats not the spirit of the game
