He was short - but there is no way you can overturn that without a direct angle (like that picture from the stands or whatever that wasn't available to the replay crews)

That replay made it impossible to overturn, that's definitely true. Honestly, if we had made the 20yd field goal we wouldn't have even seen OT. I'm surprised we won considering how poorly Barrett was throwing and how terrible that R OL tackle was. Hell, our defense and those turnovers were the only reason we were still in the game around the 4th quarter. Michigan is a drat good team this year, it's sad how many seniors they'll lose but hopefully Harbaugh recruiting brought some talent in. Also, I think Harbaugh is hilarious (esp his milk commercials) but I think he should try and issue some kind of statement to apologize for his emotional outburst

falz posted:Isn't the first down marker a few inches before the yard line? That appears to be where the ball is. The yellow line put there by ABC doesn't always match up with the real line to gain. Since this was the first series of OT2, OSU had started first down at the 25 yard line. That means they needed to get to the 15 yard line itself, not a few inches before. It's too bad they didn't have a better angle. Regarding the picture, it shows Barrett against the blocker in front of him. That's pretty much as far forward as he would have gotten. But who knows, it's just a still frame and there's no way to say that he didn't get a little bit further. I mainly just wanted to post a better view than that first image that has been going around. I do think the PI calls and non-calls were much more blatant though. There's no way OSU only committed two penalties all game. The refs were bad, plain and clear. But they had much less effect on the outcome than Michigan shooting themselves in the foot. Bad offensive playcalling, turning it over repeatedly, the defense deciding not to spy Barrett and letting him run for 40 yards and later a TD. If Michigan does their job correctly, the refs' influence doesn't mean a thing. One last thing, I freely admit Jim Harbaugh is a wild rear end in a top hat at times and him blowing up over that justified offside call was ridiculous. I have to wonder if having the coach blow up like that rattles the players a little bit. Hard to stay focused when your coach is acting like a jackass.

Jackasses like you and me get to whine about uncalled holding and speculation on where the first down line really was. Head coaches have to keep it at the serious stuff like fifth downs and getting hosed on onside kicks, you know, the stuff that will get you a formal apology letter.

As expected Auburn played a very vanilla game on offense against Alabama and was beat handily. Having White out was pretty much a death sentence before the game even started but Jeremy Johnson laid an absolute egg in his (basically) finale in Auburn colors. The thing that really bothered me about this game was that Alabama really didn't play well, especially in the first half. The game was there for the taking and yet all our offense could muster was a very predictable and ineffective scheme that was immediately stopped by the 'Bama defense. This wasn't a problem exclusive to this game, and I think going into the off season the fact that our offense looked so lost at the start and end of the season is the major talking point. There's a lot of potential for this team going into next year, 2016 was also the emergence of a defense which could finally be relied on, a first in many years of Auburn football. It will be interesting to see what Gus and Rhett Lashlee come up with during this offseason, I'd expect both their seats to be warm going into next year, with the potential for the to get very hot if the offense doesn't immediately show improvements and an ability to function at the level expected.
