The infanticide among the Maki saddened Xe-War, reminding it of its siblings who had dissolved away from existence into ... well, nothing. Xe-War looked at those moments, and wanted them to be meaningful. It formed a new pattern - now, when an Archon perished, the act would infuse the nearest sun-system with a supercharge of that Archon's essence. Matter, life and soul would all be touched and influenced by the dissolving Power. Stars and souls would take on the colors of that Archon. Life would find affinity with the Archon's Portfolio. Matter would better serve in applications of that Achon's now orphaned domain.

But People have fears that beasts do not. Questions, too.

The Darkened Embers continued their aeons long journeys, only rarely encountering one another and even then saying little. There wasn’t much to communicate - theirs was a lonely life. Johj felt them crossing its vastness and re-vectorized their trajectories; not all, but enough to begin something. Soon, the Void Comets began to collide - unexpected, terrifying collisions that killed some but mostly jostled the occupants. After a period of confusion, the Darkened found that these chance meetings were vastly preferable to solitude, and so they bound their Comets together, travelling the cosmos in fleets that soon grew to massive sizes.

But it was not companionship alone that kept them together. Os-Ten-Ma-Hath had filled them with Spiralling Keeping and a lust for the rare and delectable matter that littered the multiverse like veins of gold, and together they were far more capable of locating it than any one Darkened alone. They devoured some, but found a new sort of hunger had grown inside them. The excess was mounted within crevices in the black and pitted surface of the Comets, and it was found to be pleasing to the sensory apparatuses. The Darkened Embers had discovered Art, and they wanted more of it, always.

Once again, Johj and OTMH join forces to improve the Darkened Embers: they now live in communal fleets of Void Comets and adorn their domiciles with highly-sought-after rarities. Johj and OTMH are pleased and gain +1 to their next roll.

The Scarcity in the multiverse had sent ripples through the societies (such as they were) of the Darkened and the Maki, but less so did it affect the Embers. Able to dive between universes, if they ran out of a certain element - or even if they were merely bored - they simply rode the Sunpaths to another. Knar smiled down on them and did them one better - it greatly increased the precision of the Ember’s Sunpathing, allowing them to unerringly swoop towards whatever they desired. The chosen people of the Archons sang Knar’s praises through the Sunpaths, sending tremors of religious fervour through every soul that heard their song.

Embers continue to increase in stature and power as they gain the ability to locate whatever they wish through the Sunpaths. They love Knar above all else and venerate him through song. Knar is pleased and gains +1 to its next roll.

The Maki were not forgotten by the Archons, either - in its wisdom, Et swept down upon the Planetary Maki in every dimension and imbued them with the power of creation. A cheap, limited thing, a mere flicker of power only able to affect change on matter and Planets, but it was a sort of power. The Maki took their charges very seriously - they stuck to the Planets even further and set about their tasks with tireless abandon. The Interstellar Maki grew even further distant from the Planetaries, silently toiling to keep the Star systems in order even with this wretched new Scarcity. They did not, however, abandon their children any more - Uz-Uz had fallen upon them in its wrath and bred them into compliance, selecting for the wisest and most compassionate of Maki among the Planets and the Stars. The Maki, whatever their faults or limitations, were now a universally (multiversally) kind and thoughtful race.

Planetary Maki gain the power of creation localized on Planets - and the wisdom and compassion to exert it thoughtfully. Et and Uz-Uz are pleased and gain +1 to their next roll.

However, the Archons began to fear that they would lose themselves in the triviality and impermanence of matter. Yoht-Ket touched them, hoping to grant them a reminder of their divine nature - but its words slid off of them, completing its downfall into the lowest of Archons. The Maki took his counsel to heart, but the day to day matters of construction and creation weighed upon them even more. Worse yet, Wel’s attempt to unite the divided Ember and Maki populations failed utterly - the Ember disdained their low and diminished brethren, and the Maki… the Maki began to forget that there was anything more to the world than what they could see and touch. Wel shattered in disappointment.

Planetary Maki grow even closer to base matter, becoming increasingly mundane. They lose the ability to percieve or discuss with Embers, and in any case Embers have no desire to talk to them either! Yoht-Ket Branches, adding a syllable to its name and slightly changing its Icon and creating a d2 Archon. Wel Divides, forming two weak Archons. You inherit one of them, and either remain in some capacity (in which case you should add a syllable to your name and slightly change your Icon) or create an entirely new one. Either way, both are rolling d2 now. Same rules as mentioned earlier - either you succeed and become d4 or fail and cease to exist.

Xe-War contemplated the vastness of infinity alone, wondering aloud about the continuity of Archonic power after dissolution. Its words took form in the very fabric of the multiverse, a reshaping of the substrate of creation in preparation for… something. A keeping of something that would otherwise be lost. A memory etched into time and space. Xe-War approved of the Pattern it had scribed into time, and went off to explore.

The substrate of the universe is now primed to recieve power from fallen Archons instead of letting them fall to waste. The exact mechanics of this have yet to be seen, but the world is ready and waiting. In addition, Archons may now sacrifice themselves (at whatever strength of roll) and embed some foundational bit of themselves into the fabric of the multiverse - or into a single universe, should they so desire. Xe-War is pleased and gains +1 to their next roll.

There is something else. In fits and starts, all across the multiverse, on a limited infinity of lucky planets, the Maki’s churning of the earth has created something. Something unusual, even to the Archons. The very beginnings of planetary life - in various stages of development - has begun. And - what’s more - the interactions between Scarcity and the travels of the Maki and Embers have minutely changed the starting conditions of each universe. As such, life has begun to take different forms in different universes, even on the ‘same’ world!

A tinge of familiar sadness passed through it at the inevitable cycles of death and nothingness that these new beings would suffer. Xe-War sought to kindle something beyond them, a pattern that would follow them, a pattern that they might one day recognize and take advantage of. A pattern in each being, when it died, would copntinue on - in another life, in another form. Forms that lived in harmony with their star, or the essence of a nearby Archon, would find a life better suited to the world they were reborn into. Those that fought against the embodiment of their stars or Archons would find weaker bodies - making them more likely to suffer.

In the interest of keeping the game moving, I chose to seize an unclaimed d2 Archon slot once it was plain by my roll of 1 for Wel-Oa that the split d2 archon had perished.
Wel-Oa had assuredly "died" to me, and that's when I thought of an interesting counter-portofolio and icon for Kay, Well-Oa's twin. The only reason I chose the Wel-born archon instead of the Yoht-Ket-born one was because it just seemed more thematically elegant that way (e: I also hadn't noticed that the Yoht-Ket-born slot had already been taken). So, technically, from a certain perspective I have only ever been in control of one active/living archon at a time, though I admit getting two archon's actions (no matter how small) in one round is unfair and I apologize to everyone for the flagrant misconduct.

At the very least we will have a Spring-Siran, so that is nice.

But People have fears that beasts do not. Questions, too.

Johj, the ascendant Archon of Heat and Darkness, grew too concerned with the affairs of mortals and the new Life to be found in all the universes. Their existences mere flickers of light, thousands dying in an Archonic instant. It watched them, and it was unprepared for the hunger of those who watched it in their turn: Os-Ten-Ma-Hath, Archon of Keeping and Spirals, Fourth Aspect of the Second Child of The Whole gripped Johj from one angle; Et, Archon of Approaching and Energy, First Child of the First Child of the Whole gripped it from another. Against their equal force, Johj could not maintain its integrity. It Divided, and was Consumed, and vanished utterly.

Johj was beaten by the rolls of two lesser Archons to an identical degree while distracted by Life. It could not withstand the pressure, and perished utterly, splitting its Portfolio among its two Consumers - one each. OTMH and Et now each roll 1d10. Two d2 Archons are born as well, bearing fractured remnants of Darkness or Heat as their Portfolios.

Os-Ten-Ma-Hath, flush with the power of the conquered Archon, turned a Star upon itself, making of it a gnawing thing of blackness and hunger. The thing, which was Mouth, roamed its home universe slowly and exclusively - it could not travel the Sunpaths, but neither could it perish, so long as it had brilliant things to consume. In the fullness of time, Mouth would consume all in its universe, but for now it had scarcely awoken. It would break its fast with a meal of worlds.

OTMH has created Mouth, a black Star that hungers as it grows and grows as it hungers. Above all it desires to consume things of beauty and light and become one with them. OTMH is pleased, and gains +1 to its next roll.

Et, bearing its own stolen power, happened upon a lesser Archon trying feebly to impress its will upon the void. In its weakness, its power escaped from it and twisted as the bearer disintegrated… but Et seized the thread of it and set it right. Immediately, Sirans sprung into being - Hot-Darkness-Siran from Johj’s bloated corpse and Spirit-Siran from Ash’s own. The Hot-Darkness sank into the deep dark cores of planets where they played mindlessly amongst the magmatic flows, while the Spirit-Siran latched onto the souls of the living and dogged them through their lifetimes. Chiefly, they performed mischief, but they brought a certain value to the worlds touched by their antics.

Et has reinforced the action of Ash, creating Sirans from the remants of fallen Archons. Ash, unfortunately, perishes regardless, but Siran spring from its corpse to continue the work of Spirit. Et is pleased, and gains +1 to its next roll.

The Embers prospered, but their hearts had grown cold to their distant brethren the Maki, the ones who had allowed matter to grow into and over them. Knar was displeased by their callousness, and acted upon the Sunpaths to modify their behaviour. With a flick of a divine appendage, the Sunpaths suddenly grew strangely brighter and more joyous, such that the Embers thought they would weep from the beauty of it. Just as suddenly, it wasn’t enough to view such beauty, it had to be shared, shared with those that could not traverse these hidden lanes. And so the Embers began to make gifts of strange and exotic matter to the Planets and to the Life on the Planets, so that they may better appreciate the wonders of the cosmos.

Uz-Uz turned its attention to the Embers as well. In their recent dealings with the Maki, they too learned the art of Entwining, and Uz-Uz encourages it among them. They find the act displeasingly carnal, and do not perform it often, preferring to allow new Embers condense from the Sunpaths and Stars themselves. Entwining fails to catch on to the degree it had with the Maki, and Uz-Uz was so displeased it Branched.

Knar manipulates the Embers into being kind and generous with their unlimited bounty, and they do so and are pleased that they have done so. Knar, too, is pleased, and gains +1 to its roll next turn. Uz-Uz grants the Embers the ability to reproduce, but they do not appreciate it fully. In so doing, it Branches - its roll remains d4, and a new d2 Archon is created.

Life continued to grow across the multiverse, strangely chaotic and unrefined compared to the Embers or even the Maki. The chaos drew the attention of Xe-War, Archon of Patterns, who sought to impose a sort of order on it all. No longer would Life be like bubbles rising in water only to pop when reaching the surface and vanish entirely. No, with the imposition of a new pattern, Souls would trace from one instance of Life to another through the generations. Gradual improvement or eternal misery would be the fate of any Lifeform under Karma, and it was Good.

But it didn’t work - not always. Life found ways to adapt. Life grew immortal, or developed instances of shared memories, or found ways to adapt their environment to cover for weaker bodies. Xe-War was so puzzled it Branched.

Xe-War tries to impose Karma on Life, with mixed results. Life begins to adapt to Archonic meddling… In so doing, it Branches - its roll remains d4, and a new d2 Archon is created.

Wel-Oa, greatly weakened, created a pocket dimension in which to store divine energy. It might be too late for it, but if only it could complete this task, future Archons could have a wellspring of power to draw from in times of need. To its dismay, the substrate of the cosmos rebelled, casting aside its infusion of energy and causing it to perish. The force of the Archons could not be withdrawn like currency - this was not the way of things!

Kay, spying the now vacant dimension, took a different tack. The creation and Division and Branching and Consumption of Archons was not a perfect process - energy was lost, and energy was gained along certain discrete quanta. By leveraging this lost energy, may not a new Archon be created, a child of all? There was only one way to find out.

Wel-Oa tries and fails to create a bank of Archonic power. It perishes in the attempt. Kay, on the other hand, co-opts the pocket dimension to create a kind of Archon-Seed, one which will generate a new an more powerful Archon should the ambient energy of the multiverse drop past a certain point. For now, the Archon-Seed is vulnerable and dormant and fragile. Either way, Kay stabilizes and rises to d4. Also - you can play multiple Archons if one of em’ dies, but don’t use two to make nearly the same action twice because it’s gauche!

Yoth-Ket-Sen, once a great and powerful Archon, had been brought low. Low enough that it had grown tired of living in this changing, expanding world. It drew forth the remants of its power and sank it into the space between spaces and the times between time. Yoth-Ket-Sen ceased to be an Archon and became a record of all that was, is, and ever shall be. Upon its dead mind the very story of creation shall be (and is and was) written.

You’re reading it right now.

Yoth-Ket-Sen, Third Aspect of the First Child of The Whole, lets itself fall into Sacrifice so that the record of all things can be penned forevermore. Its roll (a d4, despite an error I made last update) is lost forever and does not generate another Archon.

It knew that, if given enough time, Mouth would grow restless and would attempt to devour the very cosmos and any life (or gods?) that inhabited it. It saw the sunpaths and formulated an idea, one that would hopefully keep Mouth from needing to go anywhere. With success, Mouth and Life could coexist peacefully in the cosmos without one wanting to devour the other.

Action: Create dark vortex holes at the very edges of the cosmos, things designed to collect the scattered materials and energies of the universe in order to feed Mouth via darkly-modified Sunpaths.

Action: When light shines into darkness, it strikes that which is in darkness, revealing its form through the interplay of light and shadow. So too shall the dark embers reveal the mysteries of the world through prophecy, by reading light reflected off the Akashic Record in the darkness between worlds.

Grant the dark embers the power of revelation: 1d2 1

EDIT: well, dang. Gonna take one more shot.

Action:Knar looked upon the Archon Kay's action dimly, for Sunpaths were its domain. Still, that which travelled by the paths would be subject to its prior manipulations, so why not extend that reach? To the Maki, to life, to all that has mind enough to desire, it tried to connect to the network. 1d4+1=3

Action: A fragment of Uz-Uz split off with a new idea - what if the Maki could do more than just entwine and create something new? What if they could go a step further - what if they could unite, merging to create a single Maki greater than the sum of its parts?

Grant the Maki the power of Unity: 1d2 1

Also, don't forget we've still got a second Johj-born and a Xe-War-born open.

You know what, nobody's taken any slot since round 3, so...

Portfolio: Hunger

Action: Mouth was hungry, the purest state of all beings, and this pleased Tha. However, Mouth was trapped, and unable to fully exercise its hunger, and this displeased Tha. So, Tha stoked the anti-flame at Mouth's core into a blazing empty inferno with exactly the opposite waveform to the Sunpaths - and now Mouth could travel those paths by devouring and annihilating them.

Let Mouth travel Sunpaths by devouring them: 1d2 2

Third time's the charm, I guess.

Clearly this was in fact caused by you joining team Supermassive Black Hole.

Action: Influence a new species and their universe - Sacrifice

Xe-War moves to uplift a crystalline species with promising capabilities for pattern recognition. These new people, the Wreax, are helped to found a civilization on their planet of origin. Xe-War infuses the Wreax with knowledge of the Record of Yoth-Ket-Sen and the workings of Karma. It maps the origins of sun-paths connected to their universe with constellations they may one day recognize - should they advance their culture and knowledge far enough. In one final push, Xe-War infuses that universe with its own essence of pattern, aligning its planets, stars and galaxies in a beautiful lattice of order and symmetry unique to any other.
