i think the main difference is that the frame rate is now so bad even youtube videos of gameplay are hard to watch.

Dunning-Kruger gets overplayed, but it's valid and not something everyone can avoid all the time.

I just spent a couple of hours chasing down a problem that I could have fixed in five minutes had I not made assumptions. Overconfidence is as bad as underlearning sometimes. It's one of those areas where I think that science really has it down, in terms that they try to reduce human fallibility through double blind (ie the observer can't effect the outcome) and being really wary of editing raw data.

The 'social' fields tend to eschew such discipline, and 'rightness' without evidence to support the basic premise, and I'm seeing a fairly worrying rise in people that don't have the ability to distinguish Truth from the merely truthy.

What constantly amazes me is the investment that people pace in a human being that they *think* they know based on a very small number of column inches. Like people speak to motive of others all the time, without actually _knowing_.

Just a turn of the screw. I don't know that's actually a feeling, though. Sure, you could get someplace with cognitive dissonance making people feel bad, but that doesn't manifest in doubling down; those people just walk away, or try to get their money back. It actually raises a more interesting point that I'm too lazy to datamine, and that's the number of voices involved in the conversation.
