This post made me loving sad. I have a little tiger here that is rapidly approaching his sixteenth year of beeing the best catte ever (who followed me most of my adult life, through bad and good times), and sometimes I think about the fact the he won't be around that much longer, and it makes me so sad I can't do much more than sitting there and looking at him and petting him.

Your doggo looks awesome, and thinking about your loss actually makes me cry. Hopefully, I could lift some sadness from you by sharing it.

Reserve him a star on the sky, he'll watch from there.

Star Citizen Still Doesn't Have Female Avatars, After $200 Million And 7 Years Of Development

Sean Murray (not that one) posted:

After 7 years and $200 million in crowdfunding, Star Citizen still doesn’t have female player avatars.

We’re a little wary of Star Citizen. On the one hand, it’s got such huge promise, such a grand scope, that we really wish it could succeed. On the other hand, it’s been over 7 years and developers Cloud Imperium Games still don’t have much to show for the millions of dollars spent in development.

For those unaware of the latest case of crowdfunding gone wrong, Star Citizen was pitched on Kickstarter as a huge online multiplayer immersive space simulation. In a similar vein to No Man’s Sky, the player can walk anywhere, get in a ship, and then fly anywhere in the known universe. And when they get there, they can do whatever they want, whether that be space piracy or just simple trading.

The game was supposed to launch in 2014, but then the developers kept pushing the game’s release back year after year as they added more and more technology to their baby.

We’re all for giving a game as much time as it needs to be born (nobody wants to be accused of being an EA) but at the same time deadlines really should encourage some effort to create a finished product.

One of the things that Star Citizen forgot to add over the snails’ pace of development is something that most games take as a given: female avatars.

Star Citizen has a few “modules” released to convince their millions of backers that the entire game isn’t vaporware, and in every single one only male models can be seen. Likewise, gamers can only be male if they decide to actually support this monstrosity of a game and create an avatar of their own.

Fidelity. Wait, was I'm working on again?

More than 4 years later than the estimated date, and Star Citizen not only hasn't done this yet, but has nearly abandoned the concept of fleet battles entirely since they can't do it. And in true CIG fashion, now they're talking Idris, the implied lie being fleet battles can't be far behind. So they're promising something they don't have by selling something they kind of have.

I've never seen a scam quite like this. Imagine in 2013 you tell people "I'm going to have a cancer curing water called Canc-away by 2014." Then in 2014 nothing happens. Then 4 years later you start printing bottles with "Canc-away" labels and start preselling them, promising you'll fill them. Now on this second round you didn't promise they would cure cancer, you said that back in 2013 and these are completely different bottles that just happen to have the same name. But you know damned well people are buying it based on poo poo you said 5 years earlier. Ah, but you didn't technically say that this time blah blah.

It's almost the perfect crime.

They absolutely aren’t almost finished with female avatars. They made that clear during citcon.

They haven’t even started really working on them.

Apart from a basic comparison of the byline, he was talking to the lead 3d character artist at Ubisoft in the Twitter exchange regarding female avatars.

It's a slight and gentle example of the industry being less enamoured by their highly efficient and groundbreaking development model.

Roadmap comparison;

September 21st

November 23rd

Interesting bit of bookkeeping on 3.3.0, because OCS et al were actually allocated and released under 3.3.5, but the roadmap seems to have tagged for 3.3.0.

3.5.0 is burgeoning; given the amount of working in 3.4.0, due in three-ish weeks given the holidays, I'm expecting another 3.4.5 shift, or a sudden dump onto 3.5.0.

Drilling down a little deeper on the patch due out _around Christmas time_ given the developers assurances that there will be no slipping of the female avatar timeline of Q1 2019;

Development here has been stalled for two patches and the skipjacker armor hasn't actually been started. I think these will get thrown forward.

30% done for a while now. Chop chop.

I can see these making it out, but they're iterations, which means it's not the finish.

First two have stalled, the last is an attempt to add some content for the buggies.

More iterations. Is QT travel updates making it in to the patch? Probably not.

lolno

The money maker. Would someone with ship knowledge want to take a crack at the value of those?

I don't care about the guns.

OCS is officially _done_ along with the Network Bind Culling and it saved the game, as evidenced by the gameplay. Except it isn't, and these two bits haven't been started.

In fact, none of the Core Tech looks like it'll make it.

I'm no big city developer but it seems pretty obvious looking at this that none of the fundamental systems are working and won't be within the forseeable future, and it really makes me wonder what the unitiated think when they find their way to that roadmap from an article about a $1500 space ship picture
