I don't think Chris really works much on the game, so the closest to a Tony Starch in SC is probably Erin with his extra carbs.
Of the two brothers, I think Erin is still the more likely to be salvageable once all of this is over. I'm not sure Chris will ever truly admit to being at fault.

it's obvious that the hacked together modified client as a server is a dead end for an mmo. yet for some reason it appears they have somehow managed to tie the single player game to it. what with server side OCS apparently being needed by sq42. CR probably couldn't make a game with 10 years and a billion dollars.

Pretty sure everyone at CIG is still grateful, and forever will be, to the magic Germans and the auspicious day they decided to show Chris their large scale 64b based procedural "tech". No one will ever miss the simpler, limited in memory, instanced individual landing zones and game locations that CIG had planned at the start of the development.

Our deep cover Programming Goons at CIstillGthen did an awesome job there to destroy the company from within using tiled planetary tech instead of procedural. Robert Space couldn't tell the difference.

It’s hilarious to me that it put them years behind and added mounds of technical debt, in return for absolutely no gameplay value, just a ton of empty procedural wasteland.

Though it probably got them tons of fresh whale cash, as citizens imagined that places like ArcCorp would be fully realized and dynamic sci-fi cities teaming with thousands of life like NPCs generating endless gameplay. I remember Reddit threads as late as 2018, in which Citizens would discus which planet would become their video game forever home.

In the Ian M Banks book Hydrogen Sonata the sonata itself is a piece of music written for an instrument that didn't exist yet. Perhaps this is what we're seeing with Star Citizen, a game of such fidelity that it cannot be rendered on our pedestrian hardware of today. No someone will have to go out and invent a computer that can run Star Citizen well. Truly Croberts is a visionary.

They can start selling gaming rigs to whales that would be able to showcase all the fidelity of SC.

It would be overpriced old refurbished PC with SC sticker on side barely able to run SC.

There's something else about bears not many people know. If a bear gets hooked on the taste of crowdfunding, it becomes a man-killer. He'll go on a rampage and has to be destroyed. And that's why you should never hug a bear.

If it is true, as some thought, that Erin showed to the concierge event already drunk, you gotta wonder why.

It could be that he was having a few rounds with friends beforehand, sure, that happens.

It could also be that his conscience needed a protective layer before facing the marks.

At the real high end events they serve everyone from one long trough, or at least that’s what I’ve read in various high society magazines.

I went to a $150 per person political fundraiser dinner once when I was in college. I got in for free because a friend of mine was a local party apparatchik. It was held in a large ballroom and professional caterers setup stations around the room overflowing with all kinds of really great food and booze. I got pretty drunk and wound up talking to Dick Cheney about Middle Eastern politics.

Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that obviously Chris reserves only the best for his backers, and that Star Citizen is good.

Nah, I was just there for the food and booze. Cheney was making the rounds in a relatively small crowd, and he asked what I was going to a school for. When I told him international relations, he asked me what I thought about Syria (this was around 2013, the height of the Syrian Civil War.) I said something to the effect that a decade of terrible US policies in the region had blown the lid off of Islamic extremism and the Sunni-Shia conflict. He just sort of harrumphed and walked away.

I haven't followed this thread for a bit since real life got in the way. Anyways, the other day the developer video of the 890 jump showed up on my Google feed and I do have to say was impressed by the quality of the build and look of the ship. But, once you think of it from a MMO game playing perspective it's just so bizarre. Is it actually in players hands yet? The video had them using it in the editor.

Like what will you do with 90% of the rooms in there?
Why would crew (real players) eat in some lovely kitchen while ??? eat in the fancy dining room? If food is a thing why wouldn't you just gobble snack bar #53 from your inventory and then continue doing something fun?
What the gently caress is a massage room for in a space game?
If it gets blown up do you lose all of your space fish and space silk pajamas?

If this ship was the centerpiece of a single player PVE game where it's like a rich rear end in a top hat version of Voyager I would be pretty pumped, but it's just so so stupid in an "MMO".

I think the ship is on the PTU.

The rooms are for your space passenger players or NPCs that you ferry around.

No random eating a thing from your inventory in Star Citizen, sir! You must spend time cooking your food.

What the gently caress is a massage room for in a space game?
It's to give other players and NPCs massages, duh.

It only exists so that neckbeards can pretend that they are wealthy and successful space men, by spending $900 on a nonfunctional art asset in a failed 7 year old pre-alpha.

Nothing on the ship has any gameplay function at all, nor have any gameplay mechanics been designed for it.

So, either this is complete and utter bull, or the CEO of a 500+ person company is spending lots of time not doing CEO stuff, but instead the Code Whisperer himself is working on the core tech of the game engine, which would really explain a lot about why things are so hosed up.
