Zzr posted:3.0 in dec 2016 is already forgotten and forgiven ? ManofManyAliases/Toast ? I don't think so. Reddit posts calling it a lie to sell more ships are getting dozens of upvotes, while the true cultists are being shouted down. I think /r/starcitizen is getting more and more hostile to Roberts and skeptical of the game ever getting completed. Pretty soon we'll start seeing posts like "can we have a subreddit for people that actually LIKE the game and are optimistic?" And maybe it even gets made. I think that's the tipping point for backer opinion and fundingl truly bottoming out.

Yeah. Jesus Christ if SC was everything Roberts promised I'd jump for the chance to play it. When they were first getting funding I remember thinking "I don't think hundreds (or even tens) of ships fighting each other in space with twitch gameplay, in Cryengine, is possible. I'll buy-in if they prove me wrong." 5 years later and they're no closer than when they started. I still don't think it's possible.

It's fun to take a look into the past now that we know 3.0 and SQ42 had no chance of being released in 2016. Did this worry Chris? Did the CEO of a crowdfunded start-up way behind its deadline worry when SQ42, the product he's gone on record saying would finance the rest of development, was no where near completion despite assurances and ads that said it was? Nah. He went on vacation to the Italian coast one month, then Maui a few weeks later. Have you ever seen a CEO, especially a start-up CEO act like this? https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/4w4ywg/look_who_i_caught_boarding_my_flight_to_maui/ https://twitter.com/sandigardiner/status/736238869268553729 Two oversea vacations in two months. You're right Chris. You earned that.

Achamp posted:The best part is that CIG has the process figured out. 6. The same whales they just grifted perpetuate the marketing. They then insist that anyone with any complaints is are too needy and say "this is why they don't give dates (and the development is so...not open) the community melts down and can't handle it." I don't think they're paid shills, though it wouldn't surprise me. I think they've bought in so hard and spent so much money that admitting they were wrong would cause too huge of a hit to their ego. They've spent so much time defending it that they can't go back. Forget sunk cost fallacy, this is sunk ego fallacy.

The Titanic posted:This is basically what the dream is for probably 90% of the starter CEO people who have not much experience with real management. Pretty much every CEO I've seen works absolutely ridiculous hours. But they're the ambitious sorta people that want that challenge. For a startup even more so. It's just something I've never seen before. And how insulting is it to the fans? As far as they knew SQ42 and 3.0 were coming out in just a few months. Either he knew there was no chance and didn't want to give backers a headsup (because then they'd stop backing) or he's incompetent and thought everything was peachy. With all the updates about RSI employees working 80 hour shifts or whatever, wouldn't it be nice to know your boss is in the trenches with you?

But I thought backers were all about donation?! You're telling me when they don't get a spaceship in return they're not actually that charitable? Frankly I find this unbelievable. It implies they only donate to Star Citizen because of the fantasy of a fake spaceship and the power it gives them.

CIG is always playing catchup and never innovating. It feels like everything they do is just a half-step too late. Meanwhile here's a screenshot from noted Console Exclusive game Horizon: Zero Dawn. ![]() Notice the detail of her ear. You can see the scar tissue where she had an ear piercing that healed. Now compare the level of detail to PC savior Star Citizen.

Xaerael posted:It's interesting to see what a successful game maker has to say, and virtually all of it being completely the opposite of what crobbleco is doing. This is pretty cool. It's neat to see a dev take complaints seriously and learn what their audience does and doesn't like. I don't think I've ever seen Roberts say "Well we tried something and people didn't like it all so we're scrapping it and trying something new. " It's all about him. I'm reminded of Wildstar. When the game came out and the raids were initially way too hard. People complained but for the longest time the devs refused to budge, even though they literally couldn't complete the content. They dragged their feet as players struggled and eventually gave in and made it easy enough for one guild to complete. Then the main dev mocked them for their accomplishment and insinuated they only won because the devs made it easy enough. The population plummeted and the game went F2P (after a ton of promises pre-release that it would never suffer this indignity). It's a pretty big bomb now. Now when the game bombs, the true believers will have Amazon to blame and Roberts can swindle his way into another crowdfunded project. In a way I believe that Amazon is dumb enough to throw money at this. I mean how much did they waste developing their phone? And they slashed the price of it to practically nothing after barely any time at all because no one wanted it.

Man, I hadn't thought of WWIIOnline in ages. I used to love divebombing planes and shooting out their engines. I remember one time I early after release I dropped a 1kg bomb on a Char B1 Bis (French Heavy tank) and hit it dead on so that there was a crater texture on top (black circle). The tank drove away unharmed. I've been playing Steel Division lately and it scratches the same itch. It's a realistic WWII RTS and it's a lot of fun. If you like weird obscure WWII vehicles and poo poo it's a great buy.

Propagandist posted:Is it anything like Wargame: Airland Battle or Red Dragon? Yes. It's the same dev and same engine I believe. I never really got into those but I prefer the WWII setting. Air Power/The Air War is a lot more important. AA isn't as good vs planes so you have to rely more on your own fighters if your ground troops are getting rocketed or bombed.

The idea is that it keeps the meeting from going too long because no one can sit down. We used them to just sorta let the team know what we did yesterday and what we're going to work on today. Nobody liked them and in practice people ramble just as much standing up as they do sitting down.

Kellanved posted:Yeah, I've read a bit about them. Just seems kinda pointless. Yeah. My whole team hated them. We had just gotten a new manager and I guess he wanted to utilize them in order to shake things up, despite it being one of the most experienced teams in the company. All it did was interrupt you at 9:30AM, right when you're just getting into the groove of things work wise. A few of the people in my team had lingering health problems and there were a couple of knee surgeries too, so the daily stand up became the daily "half the team sits and the other half stands".

A Senior Gameplay Programmer and his only title is a mod that isn't even an original game. It's just a recreation of Half-Life in the source engine. So he has zero original gameplay experience and he's a senior programmer. Did I mention that development for Black Mesa started in 2004 and it still isn't finished? No? As a business owner, the idea that my response to someone getting a refund for a product they bought, for whatever reason, should result in me banning that customer FOR LIFE from buying any of my wares is about the most idiotic thing ever. This is going way back to when I worked at a video rental store (remember those things?) but we were shown statistics regarding customers that came in with a grievance. People that were helped politely by an employee and had their problem resolved satisfactorily were more loyal customers than people that never had problems at all. It's the reason retail management is so strict about being as helpful to customers as possible. If a company refused refunds out of spite, it shows how dumb they are. And how do you explain to your employees "Great work this year. Your bonus would be bigger but because of our 'no re-buyins' policy we had to cut it?"

If a chef gets an undercooked meal at a restaurant and tweets out a picture of pink-in-the-middle chicken, people blame the restaurant that can't cook. If a movie star goes to the theatre and the film stops playing halfway through, no one blames them for getting a refund. Because that's stupid. Stop treating game devs like they're saints. It's just another job. No job on earth gets this much slack for a bad or late product. None.
