I guess the thread will die as it lived... rubbing.

Since reddit-bot didn't post a screenshot of the comment I assume it never actually happened. Confirm/Deny? We have cake and Chris got nowhere near it.

Good stuff overall. If I'm honest I don't have a problem with cosmetic loot boxes because I don't care enough about my pixels but the money they bring in means I aren't forced to pay for stuff I do want. Still a step in the right direction should always be applauded.

trucutru posted:It's still gambling and should totally be regulated, specially in games where you can trade those cosmetic items. I agree but banning loot boxes won't fix the industry. They will just try to fill the shortfall with equally terrible practices. I wouldn't bet against things like enforced DLC or whatever being brought in as a replacement. EA won't turn over a new leaf, you'll just see things like having to pay to unlock leagues or in FIFA, or charging $9.99 for an "Empire Pack" to unlock Darth Vader with no alternative approach. Blizzard might start charging for map packs or heroes or whatever. I admit its selfish but loot boxes had no impact on me, I just worry about what shady practice will replace them if they go. I also wouldn't be shocked if they leant into the gambling and just put a "you must be 18 or over" type warning before you buy them. I don't know if you can separate that from the overall rating of the game though. Like I said, its a good thing and absolutely a step in the right direction, I just aren't ready to celebrate yet.

trucutru posted:All of those are perfectly fine. I would love to see them try to do that. I would much, much prefer OW to keep selling loot boxes to people who want to play dress up than to start charging me for maps for example. Same goes for FIFA and it's ultimate team, charging for each individual league would be a travesty. Hearthstone can keep selling cards as long as i can earn them in other ways and the game is free. I'm not trying to claim that loot boxes are good for games or anything, especially with things like PUBG and CS:GO having boxes that you have to pay to open and EA putting notable content and pay to win type stuff in there. That's why I originally specified that if it's cosmetic only and you can get them without paying I just don't really care and think there are far worse ways (for me) that these companies could try to gouge money.

So after finally catching up with the thread I will take this brief reprieve to say that I bought 3030 Deathwar in the Steam sales. I'm aware that has basically nothing to do with SC but it seems like the sort of spacey game SC fans might like if they weren't so caught up on imagined "fidelity". As for me, I have no idea what I'm doing and the important ship is definitely going to end up being found by someone else. Who needs lots of money though, I have my new found career as a bike messenger/taxi service to focus on.
