Looking at the super-accurate funding-tracker SC is doing extremely well at bringing in more cash for not-in-game ships.

One wonders why the grey market still needs to trade at 20%-30% below value with all this enthusiastic demand & cash swimming around.

Definitely not a scam.

The funding tracker remains one of the unexplained mysteries of Star Citizen.

If it's accurate then crazy people really are giving RSI tens of thousands of dollars, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars, every day.

If it's faked then how the hell are they managing to pay for multiple studios, hundreds of staff, mo-cap at imaginarium etc?

My guess is that it's accurate-ish but with a few caveats. Only shows money in, refunds not accounted for. Some sort of baseline is established from somewhere so that there is never a $0 hour (subscriber funds maybe?).

Whatever it is I'm glad it's there if for no other reason than it shows just how loving bonkers the shitizens go during a sale.

Yea that's what I don't get. Something doesn't add up. They barely crack 10k views for their anniversary stream, regular streamers are lucky to get low 3 digits of users, forums and reddit are fairly slow. I'm supposed to believe they took in 7 million last month?

I'm not saying its completely made up but there is stuff being counted in there that is throwing these way off. The community is far too small and interest demonstrably too low to consistently give these clowns 30-40 mil per year.
If there's genuinely so much money available from eager backers, the grey market should have seen a resurgence back to "normal" pricing - buy at full price off CIG or grab at a discount from established traders? That such traders are struggling to shift "stock" is a very telling sign that funding is not as CIG/Turbulent are showing.

Production wanted: 0
LOL :gary:

That unironically makes sense.

In the 16 months since July 2015, CIG have hired five Artists and four Programmers/Engineers, or rather reduced their "Current Positions Available" by those numbers.

E: and they now want four new Marketers

No. From what was told to me, evocati were testing different builds. In a day, they send out multiple builds. Some are more focused on flight dynamics while others on FPS gameplay. The evocati have their own chat, discord, ptu forums, etc. They're all in one test group, but testing different things. The results are tabulated and they'll use those to streamline the builds so that the can get it out to PTU quicker.

ManofManyAliases posted:

Highly doubtful. Still a lot of bugs in the flight model and a larger bug currently crashing GPUs. I don't see it for Friday.

Which sub-Evocati build(s) is/are affected? Are the flight-model bugs only in sub-build #1, while crashing GPUs in sub-build "Star Marine" #2? Or have the issues only surfaced when CIG attempted to merge sub-builds #1 and #2?

Because E:D is a lovely exploitative game, with its ridiculously expensive episode DLC and silly ship skin MT, its lazy procgen design, and its unrealistic flight model that limits how quickly you can yaw so as to not break your neck. Oh, and it has completely fractured the community by having this nonsensical single-player/co-op/MMO-style multiplayer split, and DBOBE stole all his ideas from Chris anyway which is why he's only ever produced the same Elite game over and over again. He's so desperate he's jumped on this VR dead-end, which just makes the game look stupid. And, I mean, the game is two years old by now. Yawn-o-rama.

It doesn't stand a candle to SC, with its sweet episodic content, its excellent ship store, its revolutionary procgen design, and its hyper-realistic flight model where they've tweaked the thruster response curves so tightly that it almost seems like you're not flying a huge space ship at all. Oh, and to appeal to the largest possible audience, it will have single-player, private co-op servers, and MMO-style multiplayer. It takes the tried and tested ideas of games such as Frontier and WC:Privateer and adds an exciting new Chris-style twist to it, like the eventual addition of VR to offer unprecedented immersion. When it comes out in two years, it'll be great.

Having source code access doesn't mean they outright own the engine. When they negotiated the original license they were a cash strapped indie start up, so I doubt they paid anymore than a basic commercial license for one game.

IIRC before the big game engines became "free", licencing contracts used to involve a lump sum upfront, followed by a percentage of future sales revenue. I wonder if CryTek's money troubles since 2014 and subsequent downfall was partially due to over-reliance on the original release dates of Squadron 42 (2014) and Star Citizen (2016?)
