In the 3 days I have reflected on several things. But mainly on the similarities between dog fighting and videogame development. Both seem really easy to an outside observer. A child can train these pits its in their blood to kill and every child knows how to have fun. But in reality it is extremely difficult and can end in severe maulings by the bitch or members of the community.

TheAgent posted:actually wait Well that's the MVP right there. There never will be anything else. Especially if they are going to see how 'lude is received (it wont go well). It will take all of 2017+ to poop that stuff out, they'll limp around for months (collecting pledges) and then they will shut down.

Tijuana Bibliophile posted:Nothing will shut down until the money stops rolling in, and backers have shown to be almost inconceivably resistent to failure on CIG's part Yea I think they'll make it to 2018 in some form. But they have to release something for SQ42 next year and that will be the end of them when they can't hide behind "alpha" anymore. The dream balloon has to pop at some point. But yea if theres one thing this thread has been perpetually wrong about (me especially) its the willingness of the backers to be poo poo on then spend. I understand with modern weapons there is a bit of form convergence but look at the sheer variety of firearms out there today. And this is 900 years in the future in the game they can do whatever the gently caress they want. Their new art shouldn't happen to look like a competitors gun that released last month.

Quavers posted:Looking at the super-accurate funding-tracker SC is doing extremely well at bringing in more cash for not-in-game ships. Yea that's what I don't get. Something doesn't add up. They barely crack 10k views for their anniversary stream, regular streamers are lucky to get low 3 digits of users, forums and reddit are fairly slow. I'm supposed to believe they took in 7 million last month? I'm not saying its completely made up but there is stuff being counted in there that is throwing these way off. The community is far too small and interest demonstrably too low to consistently give these clowns 30-40 mil per year.

My contribution to Star Citizen is getting the subreddits rules changed to remove the "dont spam your youtube/twitch/blog on this reddit" Because I'd report a bunch of INN's near daily threads and warn them in thread to quit it or suffer the consequences of admin action.

Sappo569 posted:That seems like an awful lot of important people to be hiring this late in the game Yea theres only a few options to have that many open spots. Honestly all those open spots can make a large near AAA game in their own right. A. They want to expand to 400+ people. B. They are firing/laying off a fuckload of people and want to replace them. (moving jobs to other studios) C. Turnover is insanely high.

BTW heres actual Star Marine footage. I swear its not a vid of my Knee hair https://vid.me/bZ5x The gun sights bug out, its a little laggy, and more importantly its literally impossible to kill the dude sniping (a one shot gun) and camping the flag you have to stand still at for ten+ seconds. People tried but could barely ding him. TheLightPurges fucked around with this message at 02:46 on Dec 5, 2016 |

Mr.PayDay posted:So do they pay salaries that are standard and usual in the industry? Or less? SC and CIG get their dicks sucked by the biggest german games magazines that the foundry positions should be getting spamloads of apply-mails? Every salary posted on glassdoor is below industry average. And devs have grumbled about that before. Combined with the terrible crunch (seriously the devs post updates n poo poo at like 9pm where they are at) and the fact that its immediately obvious its FUBAR leads to anyone experienced leaving and only hiring new grads.

Beer4TheBeerGod posted:The superfluous walkways in the cargo section annoy me. They serve no purpose other than to look cool and provide another way to walk around. Maybe they serve as an alternate FPS path? But if so it seems like just going outside the ship would be equally logical. More importantly they take up space that could be used for larger items or pieces of cargo. Maybe they make more sense with other modules that have two levels? Citizens loved it on the subreddit. They prob just thought "Evocati its gonna be buggy". They aren't fixing that poo poo in a week. Thats the product lol.

I just realized what was bugging me about the vid. There was no music. Even "realistic" shooters like BF1 have underlying music. It doesn't dominate the game and I rarely notice its there until now when there was none. Virtually all shooters/games do. It sets the mood and the pace. In BF the music gets faster as you near the end of the round etc. TheLightPurges fucked around with this message at 03:09 on Dec 5, 2016 |

The utter contempt they show their customers at every level of the organization is what makes CIG stick out from any other random lovely company. I mean it makes sense. How can you have genuine respect for a customer if you shovel poo poo in their mouths for years and they still pay you thousands of bucks for nothing? You can't. I can see why they've given up.

ManofManyAliases posted:No. From what was told to me, evocati were testing different builds. In a day, they send out multiple builds. Some are more focused on flight dynamics while others on FPS gameplay. The evocati have their own chat, discord, ptu forums, etc. They're all in one test group, but testing different things. The results are tabulated and they'll use those to streamline the builds so that the can get it out to PTU quicker. I hope this is true because this is the stupidest loving thing I've ever heard especially for such minor poo poo.

I just want them to release it. Because this can gently caress them hard. Most people dont have enough context to know if a space game is good and what are essential simple elements. Everyone has played a million fpses and has a good idea of what to reasonably expect. Some will see right into the shoddiness of it and get woke.

I legit dont understand when the citizens talk about exploration and discovery of new star systems as a mechanic. To the point of buying a 1200 dollar exploration package. I thought all the systems were fleshed out and had all this lore? Whats to explore? Why can't I do this in a fighter? Is a derelict begal invisible to a fighter?
