Might be a good marketing idea to edit this trailer to be about CIG, just putting that out there.

A Star Citizen from reddit posted:

Firstly, regardless of your statements I wont stereotype you.
I am uncertain how old you are or how much commercial experience you have, but the time that CIG has spent building a company and building the game is exceptionally fast - under all circumstances.

Normally to grow any business from 5 staff to over 300-400 odd in 4 and a half years is exceptional. You ask any company that is sub 50 staff what would be required to expand to 300-400, let alone if they could find suitable candidates. It's incredibly hard.
When I worked in the industry on games like fallout and freedom force and tribes 9 out of 10 times the default window was 3 years (back in the late 90's early 2000's). The budgets were 5-15 mil, the teams were 25-70 odd. Not once were we not screwed over by the financers/publishers etc, More often than not timelines were moved forward 6 months (even 1 year).

15+ years has passed, the manhours required to build complex graphical games has increased considerably. The budget (mostly inflation & insane advertising costs) has also grown considerably. 5 Years is now the default "time frame" for a game, that is assuming that you have a full resourced studio able to work on it. Titles like COD cycle developers and have multiple working on them in conjunction so that they can attempt to release a title once a year. Last I looked 3 dev's cycling a 3 year window, releasing a title a year.... and COD is known globally for "re-skinning" the same poo poo and releasing it as new... With a few new "gimmicks" tossed in.
Now I have 0 inside information about CIG, I do however see the following:

1) The KS, the demo (like 99.99% of all tech demos) was a paper walled building that was done in NOV 2012. - I've watched so many demo's bomb infront of financers "Why dont you make a COD/BF shooter... or something more popular" Nah not interested.
2) Once financing decisions were made (IIRC they decided they did not need investors/loans & they would continue crowdfunding on their site), they started to build out the company and get the ball rolling.
3) Within a year or so they know they are going to easily hit and surpass their original projections for game funding, at which point they turn to the backers and with a huge sample get a vote basically saying "YES! reach for the stars, make the game as best as possible". - CIG continues the funding and their open development, adding additional sites and hiring available staff/resources from those sites local vanities.
4) Years pass with CIG working on 4 core pillars: Single player game, Multiplayer Game, Design and core tech. - What CIG wants to do currently is not possible on any single engine (Features from different engines however do exist proving that it is possible).
5) CIG continues to develop tech and iterate pipelines for productivity and efficiency whilst pushing the quality bar as high as possible.
6) Yes CIG, like any company have various growing issues that require restructuring. Yes with there size there are lots of dissenters and x workers. Yes they are under the spot lite and both the good and bad have to be taken with a shovel worth of salt.
7) CIG continues to show advancement's in tech, advancements in quality (I hate the word fidelity), advancements in game design (*Game design has been DEAD for 15 years curtesy of game consoles killing/strangling the industry).
8) CIG , no restrained by financers/publishers can choose to delay things to get the solved. - Lucky for them they have staff/resources that are smart enough to do so - so many games I've worked on they didn't/couldn't solve poo poo.

So to summarize I would say CIG has really only been running optimally for 2+ years, their studio is decent sized now and should be able to maintain that level of productivity. I think people are kidding themselves if they think SQ42 will drop this year. I'll be very very surprised if it drops even before 2019. Having made that statement, there is a large volume of cross benefit resource allocation that can be leveraged from both SQ42 and SC. I Do also think that because of the two games CIG cannot release suitable and finished content from SQ42 into SC since they want to keep SQ42 a surprise/new experience. They sure have dug their own hole on many fronts, but the majority of the primary backers are throwing money at them to have them lift the bar of what can be done with a game/game engine more in the how to progress the horrifically stagnated games industry which now shovels the same poo poo time and time again to their poo poo loving customers.

Profit is not the problem, the person and their greed is. Water is not a problem, People using it to drown others is. A gun isnt a problem, People pulling the trigger is. Without profit there is no incentive, Without incentive humans wont do it - plain and simple. If none will do it then nothing gets done. Welcome back to the stone age. *(Adelaide in Australia is currently fast approaching giving up electricity due to excessive socialism Their power is the most expensive in the world about looking to double/tripple in the next few years - $1.50 per KWH... compared to other countries that normally cost 5-15c's per KWH.

As the atmosphere sours, some will retreat to defensible "green zones" behind fences/barriers with armed checkpoints leading in to them. These zones will be large and clustered around key buildings like a large metropolitan mocap studios or human experimentation institutes. The benefit of the mocap studio is that it provides accommodation and treated air handling to the bedside for the residents. It also has the ability to provide In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) services with the carefully stored gametes (genetic diversity) of Chris Roberts and Sandy Gardiner.

This is not a self contained biodome/biosphere concept. It's an extensive area of several mocap studios that interact with the environment and concentrate what is needed from the atmosphere and scrub the interior air to keep it breathable.

As the surrounding population is excluded and carefully selected "survivor colonists" are brought into the "green zone" the need for electricity in suburbia will drop off due to the thinning of the herd through the most painful kind of electricity. This will result in a reconfiguration of the grid to direct the (now) surplus electricity from wind/solar/hydro/geo into the "green zone".

The "survivor colonists" (breeding stock) and support staff of actress/customer support/shill will be supplied with treated air through fully atmospherically controlled, hermetically sealed videogame studios. Foragers and outside technicians will be able to breathe through the use of portable systems such as back carry tanks or portable atmospheric gas concentrators.

The new Population Control Measures come into play:

*Each couple gets one normally conceived fully autistic manchild and one IVF (sperm bank) aspergers child (insemination or embryo);
*Once you've had the IVF child you go into the lottery for only one more natural child or opt for IVF;
*Inadvertent deaths of a male spouse mean you get an extra child by their sperm insemination if it is recoverable otherwise another IVF child voucher;
*Inadvertent death of a female spouse mean you get an extra voucher (natural or IVF) for you and your next partner;
*Rights to a child voucher are non-transferable so if you don't conceive naturally or artificially within two years the default vouchers get added to the birthright lottery that everyone is eligible to enter.
*Female same sex couples can mix and match between them;
*Male same sex couples can bestow their child voucher on a surrogate where the surrogate has no parental rights;
*Population shortfalls result in additional vouchers being added to the birthright lotteries;
*Restrictions on abortion would be more strict if the fetus is female rather than male to encourage a population skew towards females.
*With plenty of power now available the inside of multi story buildings will be repurposed as extensive "grow houses" (minimal atmospheric treatment) and livestock housing (enhanced atmosphere).

Existing gravity goo flows from reservoirs will gradually be replaced by well understood and time tested gravity goo gathering from green roofs and water treatment of effluent will be fed through the "grow houses" and livestock.

Everything expected to be needed for the next 1,000 years will be gleaned from the city/suburbs/countryside and stored in nearby "green zone" Wing Commander merchandise warehousing (no atmospheric treatment).

With directed research and animal breeding efforts we could develop "dumb animals" that could survive (hopefully thrive) and continue pledging thousands of dollars year after year in an atmosphere that we wouldn't find comfortable. These sheep/goats/cattle/manchildren are what I refer to as "biological accumulators".

This is a Permaculture concept where you use these animals to do the hard work of accumulating the energy from the sun (grass) in the form of protein and fat (with other nutrients thrown in) and these are periodically brought into the "green zone" during the muster.

Demolition of (by then vacated) housing near the green zone into open pasture could allow large areas of manchild grazing. This could begin with simply fencing off a suburb and allowing access to front/back yards by removing a few fences. Over time a demolition crew would work on repurposing the "pasture suburbs" into a mix of grass and nut/oil trees (further biological accumulators).

For these sorts of thought experiments I look to the layout of my own city in Adelaide, South Australia. We have wide parklands around the city centre where all the administrative infrastructure of the state is based. These could become the initial pastures and if cleared of key trees/vegetation would provide clear defensive lines of fire.

This area includes the city council and state parliament as well as the Governor of the state. There are lots of accommodation areas both general residential and hotels as well as convention centre and several hospitals. Central Markets, Police headquarters, State Library, Art Gallery, many, many universities and lots of research facilities. Military administration is adjacent to the parklands. Basically all the infrastructure you might need for quite a large society that has undergone significant contraction.

You can see a map of sorts on the city council website here ==> http://www.adelaideparklands.com.au/explore-map/

Obviously borders of various areas would likely follow pre-existing streets and precincts. There is even the likely possibility (in the context of this scenario) of pockets of "green zone" in different parts of the Adelaide Plains with transport links being preserved between them. As an example we have recently electrified most of our trains and the train terminus (used intentionally for the Walking Dead reference) is in the City of Adelaide proper right in the "green zone". There is going to be a rail extension to our major Southern Area hospital with major north/south arterial road developments along South Road. Also electric tram lines from the "green zone" to the beach area of Glenelg which can be used as a beach port because of the jetty.

My expectation (again in the context of this scenario) is that there would be a staged withdrawal into the defensible area of the cult's compound and then consolidation of ecosystem services in the "green zone". After the general contraction of the population in the wider Adelaide Plains and a period of stability and reconfiguration of infrastructure electric/water/medical/food/logistics/etc there would be a staged expansion to incorporate useful surrounding features of the landscape and facilities such as additional mocap studios and satellite "green zones" as dormitory suburbs and service facilities like ports and other hospitals.

In this collapse scenario people outside the cult compound become cheap/disposable; much cheaper than equipment. And they self organise. You just have to keep them alive at a subsistence level and they'll work for basic videogame services (ships/fuel) just to keep playing. The foragers I envisage may not even have to be that smart so the forays out in the "red zone" could be entirely without atmospheric assistance. The cultists are expendable, after all.

The game will never be released because it's not profitable to release it. The next patch will always have all the features you want until it's released and then it will be the next patch after. They're already millionaires so they've got no reason to do anything more than keep up the scam for as long as it's bringing in money.
Star Citizen exists in a state of perpetual crisis. This should not have gone on anywhere near this long. The project lurches from delay to disappointment, with deception baked in throughout.

In this way, SC as it stands now is a perfect microcosm for late stage capitalism itself. Both are 'first as tragedy, then as farce'. Both are only delaying the inevitable collapse.

The incentive to launch is that they've promised to stop selling jpegs after release, which means instead of $250 and $1,000 at a time they will only be making $60 at most per sale. This makes total sense for them and they should be rushing to release the game and thereby massively reduce their free infinite profits to a comparative slow trickle. That is why the pace of development has been so insanely fast, they have good incentives.
