i dont know much about whats happened with this project over the last eight fuckin years but it's funny to remember that the official reason chris needed a kickstarter was because he turned down EA as a publisher for his incredible dream project.

imagine a world where that happened and he said yes. imagine how different this entire process would have been

Wasn't the rumor that he tried selling SC a year or two ago to the big publishers and they laughed him out too?

They don't need to think, they just have to do what Chris tells them.

I have no idea what happens, but it looks super weird.

That would have been hilarious, especially if they end up with metrics showing that Stadia players on average play for about 5-10 minutes before switching to some other game and never coming back :D

It looks like they are testing EACH body part how much the 'fog' should affect them, and they may be using one 'stack' of checks for all the parts of the several models.
So you have 40-50 fog checks to do per draw of the screen, it could be that it doesn't complete the ones before its time to redraw again.
Or it does test them and the testing is hosed and thinks its not in fog.

At this close range, should only be one check for the body. It could be one check, and the passing of the 'IN_FOG' isn't passed onto the sub parts.

Then again, I could be talking total shite. But its Star Citizen.

Star Citizen reminds me of a blog I read about an attempt to launch a virtual mall just before the dot com bubble burst. The people financing the whole thing were completely oblivious the the fact that late 90s tech could not possibly create a simulation of shopping at a mall. They wanted customers to walk from one store to another, they wanted items on shelves, a lobby, etc.

Like it didnt occur to them to make a fast and convenient experience and insisted on making the experience feel real instead.

Reminds me of my brother's Technical Design Masters Thesis he did back in the early 2000s.
It was a mock up of a kitchen fridge with a computer screen on the front, and it 'controlled' the kitchen OF THE FUTURE. Ordered food when low, turned on/off lights, etc.
And it had little 3D animations of 'you' walking to another appliance, the door opening, BEFORE you could see the menu options for it.
The loving FUTURE back then, but loving annoying now.
