The general public thinks running higher octane ( 91 instead of 87 ) is on general better. Even though the ECU has no idea what to do with the extra octane.

And since the question was specifically about which things you don't do, I was wondering what the gently caress. It reads like he goes against common idiot practice by sticking to what the manual says, which is probably like 100 octane leaded or some poo poo. I tried looking it up, but I guess my google-fu is weak today.

Ah, my bad. Totally misread that. There have been a few octane boosters in the past couple years that have come out that can do a decent job of recreating 100 leaded out of mid 90's pump gas. It's that what you've ended up using?

They'd received a valve job around 1990 (timing gear failure) but did not get hardened seats at the time, and had been run pretty much exclusively on unleaded since. The valves had recessed so far into the heads that any sort of work to rebuild them would've cost more than a set of brand new L31 Vortecs. So I bought those instead
