Hello! Some of you may remember ages ago when I did a SimCity 4 LP. I have been getting the itch to do such a thing again, but a lot has changed since then. Specifically, there was actually a new city builder that isn't a pile of poo poo. Cities: Skylines is the third game from the Cities in Motion studio, and unlike the other two this one is a full-fledged city builder and not just a transit simulation. It's not without flaws--I think SC4 is still the best of the genre--but it's quite good and benefits from modern technology like proper 3D and curved roads. I have not put nearly the same time into this game as I did SC4, but I figured I should do something different. This will be a screenshot LP with thread participation. Skylines only allows a single city at a time, no region play, so the thread will be making the major decisions about how our dumb city develops. The old thread was more of looking at bonsai cities, this one is more you guys being the city council. Table of Contents! Map Choice! We have four options for you to choose. All of these are real world maps from South Korea. First is Daejeon. The slogan for Daejeon is It's Daejeon, which is an accurate statement and about the most one can say for Daejeon. Second is Cheongju. The slogan for Cheongju is Cheongju, the happy city worth living in which makes me wonder if "worth living in" is really the bar you want to set. Third is Busan. The slogan for Busan is Dynamic Busan, which... I don't even know what that is. Busan IRL is a nightmare to get around. Fourth is Miryang. The slogan for Miryang is Miryang is also the city of cultural tourist destination and superb cultural relics and picturesque places combined with beautiful nature because I don't think they know what slogan means. I would ever so slightly put my thumb on the scale for Daejeon but it's up to you! Voting will go a few days because it's Christmas. Also this thread already has a break planned: I will be away on vacation for a few weeks starting in mid January, but we will have a updates before then and resuming after. Vote away!

Woo. This should be interesting to see. As far as what to vote for, I would go for Daejeon in the end. I think it looks the nicest and wouldn't be a nightmare to build with. Though Busan has the advantage of opening up to the sea, for ports, but IDR if that's even really a thing in this game compared to other City Sims. It's been... a long time since I've played this game.

There are ports but they're not a huge deal. Much like SC4, the actual game part of the game isn't particularly difficult, but the more advanced and complex traffic simulation does mean it plays a lot differently. Optimizing traffic is the largest chunk of the gameplay. Not too surprising given the studio's past.

Having also gotten lost in Busan, I would like inflict the same misery on millions of sim-Koreans.

I've been to Korea once. Busan sticks out in my mind from the trip.

Some rivers will allow for ports as well. There's no penalty to how many ships come in, they can be rather bugged actually. So I'll put my 2 cents into Daejeon.

Daejeon Also, are you using any mods (such as buy more city locations than normal)? Which dlc do you have? I have the base game, but this LP will probably encourage me to play it again.

Daejon is the place to be.

I have a poo poo-ton of buildings and a bunch of mods. Larger map, various fixes for traffic and whatnot. I'll post the list when I have all the ones I want added. DLC wise I have After Dark and Snowfall. I pick them up as they go on sale so the disaster DLC will come eventually.

Daejon maybe you can show me how to deal with collecting dead people without building a billion crematories

Which of these is most suitable for hydro power production? Because that's the one I'm voting for, for reasons which should be obvious to anyone who's played this.

Let's go with Busan. I like coastal cities! Too bad my own area isn't one of the options, but Anyang is more of a sub city of Seoul than its own city anyway.

I vote Cheongju. Because citizens willing to move to a city with such a low self esteem motto should be easy for the city council to manipulate.

Suncheon Central Gimcheon Diversity Pocheon Good Chungju I.Seoul.U Just Sangju O2 Gunpo Top Gochang Wonderfull Samcheok Yes! Uiwang I also decided the thread will be somewhat themed, it's not going to be storytelling like the old SC3000 one but we're going to start it as 1953, the Korean War has just ended and we're rebuilding. I will limit the technology as appropriate as we go through time. And for each year I'll throw in some Korean history of the time. ultrabindu posted:Did you not get in touch with the lparchive boys to get it added? I know not of this lparchive. SC4 doesn't use multiple cores and is crashy on it, you have to set it to only use a single core to increase the stability. That's part of the problem, it's just so old and they never released the source code to do a fan update. It was always kind of fiddly and it has real issues working and doesn't take advantage of any of the advances in computer hardware of the past decade. Skylines runs much better.

If we want one good map to play with, it's Daejeon. Good amount of open spaces, and a solid, flowing river that'll happily take away all the sewage I'm sure will be dumped into it. What mods are you intending to run with?

I am so GODDAMNED nostalgic for Daejeon . I still remember going down a backstreet somewhere in there and ending up in a fancy toilet museum. It's Daejeon is the perfect slogan for that city in the center of the sticks. Superhigh density apartments next to corrugated tin shacks.
