I love blueberries for what they are. It's just a silly uniform that makes us stand out as sailors. It's not like we would ever actually need camouflage.

Oh dear. Reporting for a long drill weekend in San Diego and my MC says to wear our digies "cause you gonna get dirty". I am clueless what that even implies to an IS unit. I'm guessing janitorial work.

I'm actually feeling really dumb for bringing my blues and both my peanutbutters and only one digi. From my past experience on AT and drill. This is a bit of a burn. At least I got a nice room at the Hilton.

Gave them the full training experience by freaking out because I thought they were going to cut power for the check but then it turns out they weren't and then watched them sit cross-legged as ET2 made them read the MRC aloud and she pressed a button that showed how much battery was left. I volunteered to mop and fix up a bunch of hosed up small lines that needed to be back-spliced but the petty officer in charge of us just looked at me funny and was like "why don't you just sit in the galley and drink coffee". Boo.

My unit likes to crank it out at the beginning of the fiscal year which is basically October. They plan a second one for April for all the peeps that miss the first one from either school or whatever. On top of that you can go solo to support another active unit if nothing really works out. Overall it's actually quite flexible. If you get cross assigned to a unit further than 100 miles(I think may be more) or so they can combine two month of drill at once and you can always drill local to you.

It's a 6 year contract though, and a lot of universities are pushing cyber security degrees, so those numbers might be coming down once the market floods. So he should go reserves right? Get in, get "trained", get his clearances, get a job.

Vriess posted:CTN-trainee reserves are a little weird, because JCAC gives you about 25% training in all four fields and uses old examples just to teach technique and methodology. Without follow-on OJT & experience, you're not exactly useful in the field. I don't know what purpose CTN-Reservists even have. You basically described the reserves. I knew two CTN reservists, one went active less than two months after school with a tidy bonus and the second just got involuntary mobed for the first time since school in mid 2015.
