Fart Sandwiches posted:This game had the insane "racing for pink slips" feature where you put two memory cards in the system, it deletes both cars from the cards (so a sore loser couldn't just kill the system to save their ride), and the winner would get both. I only tried it once on a rental with a friend but it was such a cool feature. I understand why it's not really present anywhere else, but dang that would be cool these days. Just losing rides online because of lag. I worked in a Namco arcade with a few Initial D machines and their save a car card system was so cool; that system sounds kinda rad but scary drat.

The Initial D arcade game would spit out a paper "license card" after your first play that saves your game data on it (your name, upgraded car(s), etc) and you'd insert it into the game after you put quarters in to get your progress back. Some of the Gundam arcade machines did this too iirc.

I mean in japan sure, but in the states it wasn't too common to have the game stocked with actual tickets. I worked at a Namco arcade and they were lovingly cared for by anime dorks like me. I was not very good but we also had a soul calibur 3 machine where the top ranked create-a-character high scores were saved and human players could end up fighting your character as a bonus boss, and my stupid All Luck Taki crushed humans all day somehow. Anyway yeah the initial d arcade game fuckin ruled and you could have a drift cappuccino if you wanted. I had the subaru wrx because I am basic as hell.

All achievements completed in Horizon Zero Dawn I went in pretty blind knowing nothing other than "uhh some kind of post apocalypse with robot animals." Loved the story, loved the gameplay, and absolutely loved the landscape. Several landmarks I've actually hiked to were modeled in game, so I really liked that. It does kind of help that the game is geographically set where I do probably 90% of my hiking, Colorado and Utah At this point I'm wandering around taking landscape shots in the photo mode.

Enjoyed HZD's main quest a ton of PC. but I haven't played the DLC quests and I'm not sure if I'd bother with a HZD 2 -- it feels like they wrote themselves into a corner with the main quest and any attempt to ret-con or add on to the story would probably not be nearly as good.

The DLC is a tight, well-written story which perfectly supplements the main plot. You'd enjoy it. There's also enough space and unresolved plot threads there for a sequel; I'd disagree that they wrote themselves into a corner. Of course, it's on the devs to break new ground and not just rehash the same themes.

I left behind a custom bed (that a man sort of died for), the TV and Playstation (took my memory cards), and the deep freezer I brought with so I could have Otter Pops whenever I wanted. I know this thread had a lot of Factorio players in it, so I just wanted to share an up-and-coming game that takes a lot of inspiration from it, Dyson Sphere Program. It's been at the top sellers on steam since it launched near as I can tell. If you liked Factorio and need to be actually productive for the next few weeks, you may want to steer clear because it's been utterly consuming my mind since I started it. The big difference is, rather than just building on an infinite plane, you start on and travel between different planets and systems that have their own resources/benefits/drawbacks (differing solar/wind energy availability, water sources, etc.) and set up logistics between them. The game is in early access right now, but it's extremely playable to a similar degree Factorio was years before it officially released 1.0. The end-game objective is in and you can play all the way to it, and they've been actively bugfixing and adding small changes since it launched last week. I wrote a longer review for it on steam.

It's not bad. A little slow and needs polish but a solid little factorio+planetary annihilation(sorta) clone.
