Choosing the right Case/PSU/Motherboard is the key to it being an 8 year machine rather than a 2 year machine. Point being, don't buy an i5 Dell to get you by for 400 bucks, spend 600 and get an upgradeable i7, even if you go low on the ram and peripherals.
