Doesn't that show also have a hard time keeping hold of its actors because MTV doesn't pay too well?

I've never seen a show with a higher actor turnover. They can't even hold on to the new kids they brought in to replace some of the original cast that left.

Mulva posted:

Conversely though probably the most popular actor got a 3 movie teen action series that is actually making solid bank and is still around, so they've actually been profoundly lucky in that regard.

That show would be DOA without Dylan O'brien. He can act circles around the rest of the cast.

I kind of love Riverdale. I feel like I'm not supposed to, a lot of its elements shouldn't work, but they do. I Just wish they cast someone more... charismatic as Archie, he feels like the weakest out of the whole cast.

Pretty much, except it... works? Season 2 of FNL fell flat because it was a complete betrayal of everything that came before. Riverdale is full-on murdercrazy from the get-go. I just watched a scene where the main girl's mom bribes a creepy coroner for details and a close look at the dead guy's body. Not for any particular reason besides the fact that she loving hated that kid, because he dated her other daughter and it ended badly. She literally walked out of the shadows while the creepy coroner was giving his report and handed him an envelope full of cash so she could gloat at a dead kid's corpse.

This show is amazing.

Madchen Amick is the only straightforward villain of the show so far and she's doing a delicious job at it. That scene leads into the next episode too when she confronts the dead son's mother with it after she publishes the coroner's report in her newspaper and subsequently gets a fist to the face

Don't trust the B had unaired season 1 episodes being aired randomly in the middle of season 2. That show was a complete mess order-wise.

For example the 3rd and 6th episode production wise were the last 2 episodes aired before the show was cancelled.

Man I am really impressed by the seasons long character arcs for side characters that The Americans have been able to pull off. I'm on season 4 and the 2-1 gut punch of Nina's redemption/death and what might as well be living death for Martha has me feeling hella depressed, but still impressed how the quality of the show just seems to have no ceiling. I'm honestly dreading the inevitability of Elizabeth manipulating Paige into joining the ranks, thinking that their whole schtick is some kind of peaceful spy poo poo.

The first and last seasons were pretty good for a prime time teen soap. Second season had occasional great moments but it bought into its own hype at that point with new characters that never really fit in and a literal band of the week mtv kind of showcase.

Apparently the version of Roseanne on prime is the same as syndicated, with parts cut to fit a normal tv commercial schedule, and cropped into widescreen from the original framing. Still watchable though.

Friends keep trying to get me into IASIP and Rick & Morty and Bojack and I'm realising how much I don't like random nastiness and negativity in my fiction when there's plenty enough of that to go around in The Outside.

As a counterpoint, I was rewatching seasons 1 and 2 of Community and I really like the saccharine teamwork/friendship climax while an indie song plays, or the music swelling as a character giving a rousing uplifting speech. Really sold the heart of that show. Got a real craving for more of that.

You really should watch the last season. It closes up most of the current storylines since Season 1/2 were essentially supposed to be the first arc of the series, and Knaupf actually later clarified on the future storylines that the finale would bring up as well as the direction of the series in general. It ends on a pretty drat satisfying note.

Riverdale's town drama is built upon an incestuous maple syrup dynasty and if that is not your poo poo then you should not watch it. It manages to somehow toe the line between innocent/edgy and serious/over the top without being... dishonest about what it is. Like in the hands of Ryan Murphy this show would fail in the most spectacular ways but it somehow doesn't.

Hey folks, how do compare Crazy Ex-Girlfriend seasons to each other? I binged through S1 in like 3 days, and it was amazing all the way, but now I'm 4 eps into S2 and it's significantly less fun. It feels like people are just being horrible each other for now reason. Like, I get that they're all fundamentally broken people, but all the development they've gone through in season 1 feels like it just didn't happen. The drama is forced, the jokes aren't quite as funny, and it relies more and more on cringey stuff that I find really grating when there's too much of it. Does it get good again?

S2 goes through more significant character development than S1 imo. If you're wondering to yourself why Rebecca seems like she's sliding backward, remember that none of her "development" is actually grounded in reality. She's still constantly ignoring the advice of her therapist. She's still stuck in the rom-com mindset, and just because she temporarily latched onto Greg doesn't mean any of that was healthier than her fixation with Josh. I feel like the secondary characters all get more time to shine also. Valencia figuring herself out without Josh in her life, WiJo/Darryl unbelievable adorableness, and especially Paula who's an actual real person dealing with her real problems now instead of that insane person who's enabling Rebecca at every turn.
