Calvin and Hobbes, the story of a boy and his imaginary tiger, created by Bill Watterson. Well, the tiger is real, but it's a stuffed animal. Except when it's not, which is usually when Calvin is by himself. Rendering their character dynamic in terms of Fight Club is loving worn-out. We're currently in February of 1994, but as I post three strips a day, that won't be the case for long.

One of the few times I can think of in which Watterson drew breasts in an even slightly eroticized style. Creep out your friends with that trivia. :sonia:

Allegedly, Watterson also thought The Dark Knight Returns was really stupid.

Outland is a continuation of Bloom County, a strip which was filled with talking animals, pop culture references, and a tendency to either discard characters without fanfare or work them for decades; at its best, it was better than that combo would suggest. Outland uses several of the same characters found in Bloom County, and the name change would seem to primarily be a way for creator Berkeley Breathed to shift to a Sundays-only format without having to worry about the syndicate getting someone to do a zombified version on weekdays.

Imagine a romantic comedy told with absolute disdain for the audience, characters with the most feeble attempts at defining qualities, and sexual/cultural mores far out of sync with the American average. Now manage to tell that in a way that stretches out uninteresting storylines for months on end, yet fails to substantially develop anything about the characters in that time, and then discards them for basically the same story told with another disposable set of characters, while the main characters occasionally interject. Sometimes Nazis, sometimes a fundamental misunderstanding of homosexuality, sometimes wankery over superficialities of classical music and its performers.

I'm not liking the changes either, but it's still easy for me to get the comics images from that new version. I just double-clicked the image, right-clicked, and the 'Copy' option was available; then I pasted it to Imgur and the upload went fine.

Only vaguely tangentially related, but I was delighted while helping to clean out my childhood home last year to find a pair of the Wally Warhead dolls for which I'd sent off UPCs as a kid. My young cheeks were not acid-burned raw for nothing.

As I understand it taxidermy only uses the skin of the animal, the interior is entirely artificial - hence the name, from the same root as "dermalogical" and other skin-related terms. In mummification much of the body's internal structure, like the skeleton, remains inside the mummy.

My interpretation of the previous Mr. Tweedy was that he'd mistaken the trash-can for the stew-pot, but the can liner explanation makes sense.
