Is it still forced letterbox on ps4? I've been watching CJacobs' Let's Play and am considering picking it up but I don't want to grab it for ps4 if it's a significantly worse version of the game. I know it's going to look better on pc, but is the framerate steady on ps4?

The Mafia 3 demo is really long. I played for 2 hours or so and didn't get to the end of it. That game is a really mixed bag. The serious documentary style the game is portraying is very at odds with the silly music and gunplay when the game shuts up for 5 seconds for some actual gameplay. It feels clunky as hell, but at least it's in a funny way instead of just being broken. Instead of looking around after finding a body, several enemies would just stand over the body saying "Well, that was pointless" every 20 seconds. It feels like the team spent more time making a fake documentary than working on the game parts, because I'd wager that a solid 40 minutes of that 2 hours was watching people talk.

I'll second the recs for Towerfall and Broforce.

Broforce had a weird hitch where later in the game the loads between levels got really long but aside from that it was a blast.

Both of these games are incredible with four people but not much fun at all single player.

Evil Within with DLC was $7 back in March with the PS+ discount. Just an FYI if you're considering buying it and waiting a bit to play it.

Can someone tell me about Rez Infinite? Is it the same game as the original Rez and Rez HD with additional content or are each of the Rez games their own thing? I got a Dreamcast recently, so I wanna know if it's worth checking out the original and Infinite or if buying Infinite is pretty much buying the best version.

Any advice on improving the HBO Go App's performance on ps4? I've rarely had problems with it over the last several years, but the past 2-3 months have been really spotty with constant breaks in streaming to buffer.

I can stream Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Video with no problems over wifi but even with a wired connection HBO Go often has to stop to buffer throughout the episode. Yesterday I ended up watching HBO Go using my phone streaming to a Chromecast and that worked better. From what I can tell, the HBO Go app's issue seems to be that it won't downgrade the quality of the stream to continue the episode. It will stop the episode and buffer instead. The phone app will allow the video quality to decrease in order to keep the video going. Is there an option somewhere in the PSN app that I'm not finding?

That's not a problem with the app, that's a problem with HBO Go. I'm using the web service and I have the exact same complaints. If you try to watch anything on their service on Game of Thrones night you'd might as well be watching a RealPlayer stream from 1995. It's been so bad lately that I finally just resolved to only use the service in non-peak hours.

If I was paying for it I'd be incredibly pissed.

You're probably right. I'm not trying to watch Sunday nights, but usually I'm trying to watch around 6-8pm on weeknights which is when most people are trying to watch also. HBO is the one service I'd really like to offer a download to watch later option specifically to prevent the streaming issue.

I watch it via twitch and it can go so many ways. The game appears to have a messedl up balance curve as you go from new players to experienced veterans. Might feel pretty bad as a low level survivor, even against a newbie killer

It feels like there's a really fun game in Dead By Daylight but it's super basic as a new player. I didn't feel very effective as a killer or a survivor. Looks like you unlock abilities by playing, but it feels like you need those perks and abilities to make the game more interesting from the start. I'm also surprised that there's no mode where you join a game where the killer is randomly selected. I guess it's not there because people might leave if they aren't the killer but it seems like a weird omission nonetheless.

I want to like this game cause the aesthetic and idea is so interesting but as is it's just not there for me. I want to play with a bunch of abilities unlocked but don't wanna play a bland game for hours to get there.

Also the game kept randomly inverting my y axis camera during one game. Had to go to the menu and check uncheck the invert y box to get it back to normal.

That did the trick. Thanks, friend. I can launch and play without a disc now which is rad. The discless launch icon has a way smaller file size than the old disc launcher, I wonder if it removes some duplicate files related to the way that game rolled out in segments over time.

I found each stage pretty overwhelming the first several times through, but after exploring them a bit most of them feel comfortable and familiar. I think it also depends on how you play through the game, turning off the tool tips especially for the first several times through can help with learning the area more than following a designated waypoint. I'll chime in by saying that I think the current Hitman is one of my favorite games of all time and despite putting probably a hundred hours in it, I still have a lot of new things to do and see in it. Interesting things, not just collecting tokens on a map or anything. For example, I still haven't touched the Landslide map variant of Sapienza or any of the PS4 exclusive contracts in each area.

I highly recommend Crypt of the Necrodancer. Great game with great music. Rhythm dungeon crawler. It's so so good. Only reason I wouldn't recommend the PS4 version is that the dlc on PC doesn't seem like it's being ported over. It's still a lot of content for the few bucks psn is selling it for.

Also recommend The Sexy Brutale. It's a puzzle game where you rewind time and sneak around to prevent murders in a casino/hotel. It's a little bit like Hitman in that you learn the routines of people in the hotel and plan out your moves based on their routines. It never gets as complex as I hoped it would but it's a really fun 5-6 hour game.

The Witness provides so many of those great revelatory moments where something clicks and everything makes a little more sense. My experience also. I wish I'd read this before dropping $5 on it. The 4th stage is messed up. Reading around it sounds like it was messed up on the original version of the game without a laggy setup. With many of us running through stereos and hdtvs, it's even worse now. Looking at the trophy percentages last night, more than 80% of players get through stage 3 on normal. Stage 4 drops to 45% of players (and I'm surprised it's not lower). I tried hitting the notes early, late, on time, nothing seemed to work consistently. Going by sound didn't work either. I just gave up and watched the other 2 stages on youtube.

Dead Rising 1 and 2 are such weird games. I rented 2 and played it for a half hour and kept dying to a guy in a bathroom and said gently caress that and returned it. A few years later I played Dead Rising 1 and took someone's advice to play for a while without trying to progress the story, just play til you die and then restart and accumulate experience and knowledge of the layout of the mall and where the good items are. That's the absolute best way of playing. Find where some good items are, like where you can get a katana or a bat. Go to a kitchen where you can combine orange juice and half and half for a big heal with a speed boost. There's a kitchen with a blender and an awning nearby with a katana on it near the start.

Once you gently caress around a bit and have a better feel for what items are good and what aren't, and where good items are, then you'll have leveled up several times so you'll have health to make mistakes, some movement buffs to make getting around easier, and then you can try to actually progress the game a bit. As for that very first boss, there's a way to climb up to where he is and melee him. That'll kill him much faster than trying to have a shootout from the ground where you start.

I hope the game eventually clicks with you. It's kind of clunky all the way through, but it's one of the most unique gaming experiences out there. When you've played for a bit it becomes like Groundhog Day where you know where people will be and when and where to go. Just gently caress around for a bit, don't worry about saving everyone, just save whoever is nearby. On that matter, it's nearly impossible to save everyone in the game without knowing where to go and what to be ready for every step of the way. Don't stress about leaving people to die, just keep on with it and play until you die.

Amplitude is fun but I have the same gripe with it that I had with the original and Frequency. The timing on switching tracks is so tight that the cause of breaking a streak is nearly always not from missing a note in a track but from not hitting the very first note when switching tracks after completing a different set. I don't remember it being as much of an issue in the Rock Band version of Amplitude that I forget the name of. Even with that gripe, I recommend checking it out. After you play 10 tracks you unlock a track from Crypt of the Necrodancer. Danny B Forever.
