On the topic of LttP hacks, I recently tried out this one called Goddess of Wisdom after ragequitting Parallel Worlds (I still don't understand why it's so beloved). It's okay in the beginning. The overworld needs a bit of work and is kind of a pain to navigate before getting the flute, but the dungeons are pretty great. Overall it isn't impossibly hard except for that one boss battle that pits you against the Armos Knights in a room full of spikes.

And then they introduce an incredibly stupid gimmick puzzle involving dragging a statue around for 20 minutes through narrow passages just to weigh down a switch. The hack throws it at you five or so times, two of which are on invisible floors (the glass (?) tiles floating over pits that can be revealed with Ether or a torch). The very last one takes the cake, though:

I quit after that. I don't care if I was 90% complete the game, this just isn't worth sunk cost fallacy-ing my way through the rest.

That's heinous. I quit the Morrowind "Sotha Sil Expanded" mod for similar reasons. It rapidly devolved into ridiculously complex switch and item hunting in obtuse mazes and I just didn't see the point in finishing a mod that forced me to noclip half the time regardless of sunk costs.

I have faith in FPZero. He's been involved-ish in the SMW community for years. Surely he has the wherewithal to make it through this... right?

I've also been watching Raocow's playthrough. It's surprisingly watchable, considering Raocow regularly commits virtually everything SA might consider an LP sin (singing, stream-of-consciousness/non sequitur commentary, filling dead air for the sake of filling dead air, etc.). Something about his consistent good cheer manages to carry the thing. I've gone no further than the thread has, though, because I enjoy the compare-and-contrast between the two sets of reactions, and FPZero and Tyty are considerably more concise in their responses to a level than he is.

Wait, when did people turn on Raocow? He used to post threads in LP all the drat time and they were some of my favorites.

The problem with level editors for Sonic games is that it's a lot more work on a technical level to put a Sonic level together than it ever was to do an SMW level, and there isn't really a good way for editors to simplify the process.

Is this just due to the generally higher speed of Sonic requring the levels to be much larger?

Yeah, that score for triangle level was completely bogus. The whole time you were working through the autoscroll section I was just thinking how cool it was that it could do this unpredictable movement without becoming too disorienting to the player and offering challenges that felt like you could learn them and make incremental progress. That feels like top notch design to me. There should be a mutiny over that judging.

This is what I'm looking for, yes. It's nice when someone shows the rest of us what the grounds are for things like this. It's more information than just "he uses savestates and ignores the difficulty" provides.

I don't know why you need people to exhaustively defend their gut feelings to you. Several people consistently find his ratings to be too high. Why do you need charts and citations for that. Are you ninja boy?

Beach is definitely the best so far. Swiss Hotel and Hostel 3 were both hilarious for very different reasons, and levels like Nightswimming were cute. The Casino one looked pretty spectacular if nothing else.

Abstract had some cool levels but also some absolute nightmares. The weird vaporwave world map was cool, as was the ghost one.

Basically I'm enjoying the whole LP.

same. it really helps the commentators are really chill and informative. i feel like i learn a lot with each video, and also COFFEE MILK.

Wait Sonic 3 levels followed by S&K levels isn't the intended order?

There's so many conspiracy theories about every aspect of sonic 3s development so I'm not shocked there's one about level order too.

I love how fan patches always assume developers move stuff around for arcane and wrong reasons rather than just because the devs thought it worked better that way.
