Welp, here goes. 30k ought to be doable. Started the year at: Textbook: 14203 Fiction: 0 Current status: Textbook: 18430 Fiction: 914 A quick amendment: At least 20k towards the textbook, minimum. No Gravitas fucked around with this message at 07:51 on Jan 3, 2017 |

Amending my to prevent temptation. Lecture notes don't count for anything.

My turn. Textbook at 24286. Fiction at 1295. Diff from the start of the year: Textbook: 10083 Fiction: 1295 Total: 11378 Not bad. I hit the textbook's 50% mark and then decided to focus on the technical side of that for a while, hence the tidy number there. I found that pacing myself to hit 1K a day is a great idea. I usually hit about 2K anyway, but having that lower limit really helps to keep me going. For a while I was going at NaNoWriMo pace, which was nice too. I'm going to up the ante as well, even though it won't boost my word count. I will also launch the fiction as a self-published thing on the web.

Ah, it is mid-month... Might as well. Textbook: 26360 Fiction: 6180 Monthly progress: Textbook: 12157 Fiction: 6180 Total: 18337 / 30000 I also got some progress on developing the web infrastructure I will be using to publish my fiction. I am almost ready to launch that from a technical point of view. Some fonts need adjusting, the nav/TOC system needs a new format. One thing that I keep delaying is setting up the site style for cell phones in landscape layout as well as tablets... All this is just minor things. More majorly, the ad network needs choosing. Oh. And the content. Right. Welp, better get to it... Since I am not launching the textbook till February at the earliest, I will pump my effort towards the fiction for a few days, hoping to launch for next week. It will suck, but it is just a tech demo / prototype for the textbook anyway.

sebmojo posted:Hey cats! Saturday again! Sound off tell me your word joys and word sorrows! You mean Sunterday, right? Sweet Gods... Textbook: 30576 Fiction: 9033 Differences: Textbook: 16373 Fiction: 9033 Total: 25406 So about 4.5K left to the word target. Looks not too bad, yes? Well, about that... Plus the fiction launch. Remember how I said it won't impact the word count much? Oh gods... Nothing is ready. Every thing sucks fore ver. Gonna be way over the word count before it is in a publishable state. I think I can make it, but it will be one heck of a push. At least the textbook is looking great for an early March launch.

Sunturday again! 1061 words left, about 500 has to go towards the textbook. This ends as soon as I get some sleep. The first part of the fiction is launched. Still needs work, but is actually getting some fractional traffic. Which is amazing for 84 words. Part 1 is short, yeah. Part 2 going up tomorrow. Good times! EDIT: Textbook goal met! 550 words left on the rest, to be used as I please. EDIT2: And now I'm done. -4 words left to be written! Technically I have done everything required. I still want to put up part 2 of the fiction, but maybe not today... No Gravitas fucked around with this message at 03:24 on Jan 30, 2017 |

Would a link to the story work for the self-pub and the word counts per chapter for the writing? I'm not sure how high the bar is... Link: https://antipode.space (only 4 parts published so far and the interface needs a whole bunch more work.) I'm really proud of this one, believe it or not. Took a lot of work, not just on the writing front to get here. My own software to process text files into web pages, server machine setup, web server setup, domain setup, encryption setup, optimization for speed, the visual layout, the favicon, research about putting up ads (opted not to do that in the end), automated table of contents, etc... A very Gravitas story, actually. I expect it to be incomprehensible/unreadable to others, I just wrote it for myself. The main idea was to have it be a tech demo / prototype for the textbook. I learned a ton about creating a website, which was the idea! And hey, peanut butter cups! Kept me sane and provided an outlet for the textbook exhaustion, while keeping me on track with my writing every single day. Counts since start of month: Fiction: 10042 Textbook: 20568 Total: 30610 The actual count may very a bit. There are control codes inside the text files. Things like "start a table" or "this character is now speaking". Not exactly words, even though they are a critical part of the writing. This is offset by some things that the word count program undercounts, mainly in the textbook, where adjacent words often get counted as one due to a control code that slurs the two together. The actual count is probably anywhere between 29K to 32K. It isn't feasible to do an exact count and the count as given is what I intended when I ed. This does not include any of the infrastructure, code, config files, etc... Just raw content is being counted. Per chapter breakdown: Textbook: $ for file in *; do wc -w $file | cut -d" " -f1; done 1018 355 1492 1140 749 368 1037 633 1045 859 185 1257 1632 1318 1136 2018 1106 1504 724 859 1019 215 1213 543 730 748 970 11 77 726 376 829 764 386 1161 259 1536 629 477 237 158 183 1074 4 9 2 Fiction: $ for file in *; do wc -w $file | cut -d" " -f1; done 89 40 1740 1068 1056 1596 838 836 88 576 690 306 30 1057 30 2 No Gravitas fucked around with this message at 22:21 on Jan 31, 2017 |
