In what world are we living where Inquisition is considered a bad game

One where severe repetition in both the quests and combat is considered dull?

I've been checking out Stories: Path of Destinies and it's a surprisingly interesting game. I wasn't expecting much: anthropomorphic hero goes on a quest to save the day, some hack-and-slash gameplay, nothing special. What I got was an involved combat system reminiscent of the recent Batman titles, a groundhog-day-style storyline, and some actual mature-ish plot (as in, you get shanked in the back or frozen for billions of years only to have an expanding sun incinerate you, and a plot by an insane emperor to annihilate the world in a dark ceremony, among other things). I'm impressed, and plan to play as much of the game as I can to find out all the different plotlines.

One caveat is that it can be problematic how often you visit the same levels again and again (due to the nature of the game), but the enemies consistently get stronger and more varied, and there's different stuff to explore.

Holy gently caress Yakuza 0 is out in less than 2 weeks 😳😳😳😳 no EU preorder but that's a day 1 purchase.

It is a very fun game, so many sidestories and poo poo to do, even the 100% stuff is much better done (you earn Completion Points by accomplishing goals that would've normally got you nothing before, which you can spend to improve tertiary abilities like dashing speed or income). Bouncing between Goro and Kiryu is alright, though frankly I prefer having a single protagonist, and there's a phone club where Kiryu can go to get his dick wet. Then he can drive little pocket racers.

Oh and like 90% of the substories end with some sappy music and Kiryu + his rescuee reminiscing about bonding over brotherhood or family or some other 'very special episode' nonsense which is great.

Funny? Hmm, tough to say.

I will say that there is a substory where you're trying to buy a porn magazine for child from a vending machine in a 'scary' alleyway, but have to play solid snake around gossipy women and your coworker who happen to be milling around. Then you tell the child to not hide it under the bed because...dramatic pause..."It's not as good of a hiding spot as you think."

Also the kid doesn't know it's porn, he just wants it because the vending machine looks nice and it's in a bag, which means it must be special!

Yeah, it's weird. I mean, how many people got into the Dangan Ronpa series because of the one translation LP that these forums hosted? Hell, I bought the sequel because of it. Likewise, I purchase both the second and third Zero Escape games after reading the first one's LP on this site. Without those I probably wouldn't have given a poo poo about either of the series.

Yo guys maybe you can help me out with this hardware issue I've been having lately - my controllers don't connect particularly well to my console anymore. They're fine as long as they have line-of-sight, or are fairly close, but if like I put them on my lap and my leg is blocking the path to the console, the input is either extremely laggy (multiple seconds) or simply not responsive at all. It occurs with all my controllers so I'm assuming it's something to do with the console, but I'm not sure. It's nothing more than an annoyance at the moment, but one I'd like to address if possible.

It started occurring soon after I started using an external drive...though I can't imagine if that'd have anything to do with it. Also the PS4 is not exactly new - White Destiny PS4 - but I keep my consoles in good condition.

So I played the demo of The Surge over the weekend (technically the demo was on Steam) and...I really liked it? The idea of cutting off robot components to craft them and stuff is pretty enticing to me, and I like the combat system. It's a Souls clone, for sure, but at least with the content in the demo, it looks like a pretty good one. Problems I can foresee would be samey environments and enemies, but I've never cared about that sort of thing. I just want to cut bits off and wear them. Has anyone played it on PS4 and can comment on how well it runs?

Not going to lie I like the, uh, 'art style' of that game.

Like, not the art itself, but the proportions of the main character. It's like they armored up a cartoon with grim fantasy armor.

Game's probably terrible, mind you.

The game Stories: Path of Destinies was pretty good with that - they had a bevy of different attacks that were useful, but not required, against certain enemies. But there weren't so many attacks that it became confusing, nor did you need to remember a ton of combinations. Too bad the entire game was built around a lot of repetition (and some unskippable sequences, which became unbearable the 20th time around)

As opposed to System Shock 2 where you can approach every confrontation from one of two ways: you use psychic powers or your gun jams and you die.

Edit: then you have a slog for the final act of the game.

No but seriously I've found I don't really give a poo poo about the games' differences in mechanics - I tend to be more drawn in by finding new stuff, locations, that kind of thing. Which is why I tend to like certain things in certain games, rather than the game itself because it's faster, or enemies track less, or whatever.

Came here to post exactly this. I actually went into the demo totally blind beyond "it's a sci-fi game" so I was thrilled that it was a more adventurey kind of thing, but the jankiness made me definitely not want to drop $59.99 on it.

Also is the demo missing something plot-wise or is there some thematic context thing I missed? It felt like you go voluntarily to have all this stuff implanted into you, and you get these presentations on what that means and does, and this is a huge company that does this stuff routinely that folks love because they got the super shiny Apple kind of aesthetic about them, but then when it's happening it's played out like the guy was kidnapped and has no idea where he is and stuff and doesn't want the operation done. Then he wakes up and is like "THIS IS GREAT I CAN WALK AGAIN THANKS" as soon as he can talk to someone.

Sparse stories are cool but if it's really disjointed like that uuuhhhh

He joins the workforce to get this exosuit that'll help him walk. Unfortunately most of the poo poo is automated, and things gently caress up somehow (probably related to the crazy robot poo poo) and the anesthetic isn't applied, nor are his clothes removed or something. He is discarded as a failure, but isn't actually a failure, just a machinery fuckup. I thiiink he is discarded far from the actual operations center? That's how I read into it, anyway.

I haven't gotten really mad at video games since I used to bite NES controllers as a child. I would sometimes spin SNES controllers around by the wire in bored frustration, but stopped when I realized that was damaging them.

Nowadays when I get mad, I, uh, well, keep playing. In my mind if I stop playing, I'll get out of that 'flow' state and lose whatever muscle memory I've been building up, so I just power through.

This opinion is only polarizing when I say it once every 40 pages, but not for like 5 years of Games making GBS threads all over everything besides AC2.

Personally I don't think they've always been terrible, per se, but they've always been...I don't know, perfectly average. Three stars out of five. You know exactly what you're going to get, there's nothing wildly new in any of the games, they're just, safe.

Black Flag was a big change to this formula, what with exploring the carribean and all, but beyond that, it's pretty vanilla all the way. And of course there are more games that swing the other way into 'terrible-to-mediocre' territory, but for the most part that's not the norm.
