Mustache Man (Jean's boss) was the royal guard who left with Lotta and Jean's mom I think. It makes sense that he was often hanging out with Lotta now.

Great ending. Not what I predicted at all, but I'm really happy with it.

One of those shows people will be talking about in like 7 years about in the context of overlooked gems.

Also thought the Jean/Mauve resolution was great, in addition to everything mentioned.

I was pleased with this little blurb I composed in the discord to try to sell the show, so I'mma post it here too:

what appealed to me most about ACCA was how it had various sorts of intrigue swirling about, Important Things happening imminently, matters of vital national importance - but the focus of most eps was just on Jean and his friends/family going about their lives, eating things, making new friends, trying new breads, and learning more about the diverse kingdom they live in

I loved this series, and I think the final episode wrapped everything up very well and appropriately.

My problem now is that ACCA has really left a void to fill. It was a really unusual show. Where am I going to find other series which are ostensibly about politics and intrigue but are actually about cake? It's a tough niche. At the very least, I hope it'll come out in English on DVD so that I can show it to more people.

Now that I think about it, emotionally charged food is kinda Natsume Ono's thing, isn't it? Watch House of Five Leaves if you haven't yet.

OK but why did Grossular agree with the traitor official in the first place? Was it all a ruse to find out the coup plot?

House of Five Leaves and Ristorante Paradiso are good anime series too.

So far any half interesting political anime is usually once and done; i.e winning an election, 12 episodes; but nothing about the difficulties of maintaining power, or acquiring more power; or rotating through different characters in a dynamic ever shifting political struggle with each season cycling through the rise and fall in fortunes of different characters.

By long running, just like, last at least more than a season; only have it last for longer than that if it gradually shifts focus to new characters and phase out, imprison, or kill off older characters.

That seems like the sort of show where you need a compelling reason to do it in animation rather than live action.

I feel like there'd be mostly talking heads x100 which would be less than interesting for anime. Would it appeal to people who dislike all the the other anime genres except for politics? If so they could always read/watch a documentary or nonfiction book.

Also does LoTGH count as politics in space? I watched the 1st movie and failed to watch the remainder series. Perhaps, parts of HxH where they visit the strange country not-North Korea?

Well like ACCA you can have things that ~make it anime~ like the food porn; have it take place in space like in LotGH, or in an alternate history 19th century fantasy Earth with cat girls. I leave it up to Japan to figure this out.

And to be more precise, even if it were just talking heads it'd appeal to people who typically don't really watch live action shows like House of Cards and so on.

I've seen it, and it's good stuff. I liked ACCA a lot more, though. I'm not sure precisely why. The setting, the characters, the plot? Everything seemed to come together very nicely for ACCA.

I'll give Ristorante Paradiso a try, although I suspect it will not have the suspicious cakes of political intrigue which I crave.

I wouldn't mind making this kind of anime and I was trying to think of relevant existing series in the same category. For example, Gatchaman Crowds Insight does mention politics but it's extremely anime.

This show was great, but a little too chill for me, the ~true villian~ was defeated a little too easily. Still good though, and really easy to recommend to people who usually aren't into anime because it has very little nonsense going on.

Did you watch Log Horizon? There is a fair bit of political maneuvering and other "sneaky plans getting revealed dramatically" in parts of the show. They use the backdrop of "trapped in a fantasy videogame world" but its not poo poo like sword art because the initial threat is not something mundane like death, but instead boredom. I liked it a lot.

I forgot we had this thread until now, but I blew through this in the last couple days and man what a ride. I love the soundtrack, every character was great, and even the "villain" of it was understandable. I also like that it was generally a defense of civil servants. The twist on Nino's boss actually caught me by surprise. The ending was maybe a little too tidy and Lotta perhaps a little too precious, but it's nice to have something hopeful and uncomplicated.

I'm a bit sad for my friend Jean that he was turned down, but he still has best boy Nino. Much as I'll miss the show, its length was just right, and I hope someone picks it up for US distribution.

PS Don't get on 10 AM snack squad's bad side.
