Honorable Mention - Zack Sabre Jr. vs Negro Navarro, Chairo 10 - MDA 2 (4/28/17, Arena Naucalpan) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDXmDP4aHpM Negro Navarro is 59 years old. The match is entirely old style lucha mat work but ZSJ has the modern version of that skillset. The selling and facial expressions are tremendous, the pace is good, the crowd is into it. Might not be for everyone, but I loved it.

HM: Trevor Lee vs. Michael Elgin - MWV / CWF Mid-Atlantic Summerheat - 6/3/17 Aired on CWF Mid-Atlantic Worldwide 7/5 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xGtUdTC--E&t=1388s (23:08 for intros, 27:00 for match) Very strong match from the tiny Mid-Atlantic Sportatorium, with both guys giving their all in front of what looks like 100 people. The logic of the work makes sense considering the size and style difference between the two, the length is just about right for the magnitude of the title match. Lee has been champion since February 2016 and Elgin gives him one of his toughest challenges for the belt. Commentary's not great as it seems like they are forcing Brad Stutts to shoehorn in as much promo work for people that may have just clicked on a link to the match (hint hint) but I can overlook it. Glad this was the episode I picked to start watching CWF Mid-Atlantic.

MOTYC: Skyman vs. Saturno - 3/3 - Campeonato Supremo Muchas Luchas - Cara Lucha, Arena San Juan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNVQut6bJLg This one's been around for a while but it was from just before I started following +Lucha closely so I missed it until it showed up on thecubsfan's "Watch Later Catch Up" report today. Tremendous lucha juniors match, where it feels like they start out doing cool regular moves and then they decide those aren't enough so they start making up even wilder moves. it's got a little bit of everything that's good about lucha libre and I think you'll enjoy it. Saturno’s been well regarded but lightly seen by virtue of the Guadalajara indies being barely visible, but this caliber of match should’ve gotten him booked anywhere. It’s the kind of match Sky Man and Rayo Star were trying to have when feuding, but Saturno’s just a bit better than them. Just a bit insane too; I don’t know if he knew this was his best shot to make a name for himself, but he’s clearly throwing everything into it from the opening moment, trying to kill Sky Man as much as he’s trying to kill himself. Sky Man meets Saturno on his level, trying to fight fire with fire. The match breaking down into a scrum of punches and gouging on the mat feels completely earned, and that hatred seems to flesh out the match a little bit more than just seeing the spots. Sky Man comes out the winner but it felt like he survived a war rather than conclusively won. This one of the matches of the year to watch.
