Because if so, I'm guessing you're still picking up a minute wobble or vibration. Either that or the optics are just not quite crisp enough. One can be fixed, the other has to be lived with. Proteus Jones posted:Full size is tantalizingly close to looking fantastic (still looks good when resized to 50%, it looks great at 25%) Oh it's almost impossible at that zoom to keep fully stable. I have it fairly well balanced using the mount on the lens rather than my camera. When I get my battery-grip it should help more couterweighting. I had the tripod at full extension but I could really squeeze out some more stability with it lowered to the ground to get out of the breeze. I was using an intervalometre as a remote trigger aswell so absolutely nothing physically interacting with the camera (600D with Magic Lantern firmware - a loving godsend with its PIP full rez window preview overlay). I was thinking of making a mount bracket out of steel lining up both the camera and lens mounts onto one bar to strength that variable. We are almost at the limits of it's capabilites, especially considering it's fully manual and a F of 8 or 9. Usually the worst idea ever for night photography. The last variable would be the actual mirror movement.

If you run the earlier image through topaz sharpen AI's stabilization setting it cleans up pretty well: If you're happy shooting in black and white, you can probably get better results by using a green colour filter. The lens is probably based around an achromatic doublet, which are usually designed so that they are corrected for spherical aberration at about that wavelength. Red and blue come into focus at a slightly different distance, which is why you get the green/purple colour fringing.

I was thinking of getting a box of graduating filters of various types. And once I get some nebula photos I'll toss up tearing down one of my bodys to remove the iR filter.

Going against the whole 'don't buy power tools from Ali' advice, I got this angle grinder a couple of weeks ago. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000777910258.html It runs on Makita 18v batteries and is 3x cheaper than their equivalent, and I'm very impressed. I got it to strip old paint and mortar from a cellar I'm renovating and it works a charm. Few things to note: - Arrived in a beat to poo poo box but the tool was mint. - It is a genuine brushless motor rather than just being advertised as such. Moulding is good quality and fiber reinforced. - I swapped out the grease from the gearing in the head with MoS2 because what was in there looked a bit poo poo but that's the only thing wrong with it- needle bearings in the head which is a nice touch. - I got this one because I have some actual makita tools and batteries. Ali has plenty of batteries too but while the knockoff tool is pretty good I don't trust the batteries to be specced even remotely close to the real deal or have a balance circuit. - This thing eats batteries which is a good sign. Gets through a 5Ah pack in about 20 minutes of continuous wire wheeling, and it is going hog wild on the wall buildup. I consider angle grinders to be a consumable rather than a long-life tool given the abuse they get, so I wasn't complaining to find one for 40bux. Finding out it's actually pretty good was an added bonus. Ali has a load of compatible accessories for it, including a power file attachment which I've just received and works great.

I may get one if these to experiment with leading up to the next solar eclipse. Thanks!

So camera settings might not have been optimal. Regardless, I am quite happy and a mate wants to fanangle a way for it to fit on his rifle - I'll see you all in the OSHA thread for that experiment haha.

They arent as bad as they look but they will kick (as grinders, or chainsaws can sometimes). Dont use them if you arent already comfortable with grinders

Got any Ali power tool tips? Looks like Makita followed by Bosch are the popular picks for battery compatibility. Should I just get a battery adaptor and get on board with Makita?

They have impact drivers/wrenches that are favorably reviewed elsewhere as well but they don't have that much of a range. I'm holding out for them to knock off a random orbit sander as those things shoulnd't be as pricey as they are for what they do.

You can probably get the same tool at your local hardware store or even walmart or something. Otherwise shipping's probably going to eat up whatever cost advantage existed. Speaking of shipping, I just got a package I ordered from banggood on March 16th. It's visibly pretty beaten up but everything survived.

Actual good AliX purchase; I saw some single 'rollerblade' wheels for an office chair on a blog post, but they were over a hundred quid for a set - Ok, off to do the usual and yes, five wheels shipped for just over £20. If you have a chair with removable wheels on a hard surface take a look at these, I'm in free-rolling heaven (and they look cool on my Aeron as well) https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000052981963.html
