dont use any seeds other than skill seeds. You can use them to craft amazing accessories later.

courage is a must for the hero. big mana discounts, zap (60 dmg AOE), omniheal. i hardly have him using physical attacks, since oomph + multishot makes angelo a monster dmg dealer.

beat both of dhoul's phases without dying, proud gamer moment for me. it took having the hero and angelo on heal duty while yangus did like 90% of the damage but i jumped i was so glad, and then of course angelo learns multiheal on the levelup from the fight -_-

Same here but I'm glad I did it without multi, makes me feel highly accomplished

I was almost hosed at one point though because he attacked the hero twice with his strong single attack one turn and killed him from 3/4 health. Fortunately I got a lucky first try Zing off and was fine from there.

I'm farming liquid metal slimes, trying to get some points into spear for the hero since I just got the hero spear. All my characters are around 35; is there a good way to more reliably kill these guys? I usually have everyone pound on them with normal attacks and have Angelo use metal slash, but they run 95% of the time before I can off one. The xp is good enough that it's still worth it, but if there's a secret to making it more worth it I'd like to know.

The hero's critical spear skills and yangus's critical axe skills are the only really reliable ways to kill the stronger metal slimes. The basic ones you can possibly get with metal slashes and regular attacks because their health is so low, but you really need those one hit kills to have much chance to kill liquids and kings.

i would not farm liquid/king metals until the end game lol. getting lucky on the basic metal slimes at the royal hunting grounds still gives you a kajillionx more xp than regular fights do, and is way more consistent.

sucks that you cant respec the skill points tho, i put a ton of points into whips for jessica but her base attack is so low after a while shes doing 8 dmg to everything and just cant keep up. staffs gives her essential skills and huge max MP boosts i shouldve seen it was the way to go -_-

Here’s a quick anecdote: Last night, after a grueling final week of writing and editing, I finished the first draft of my first book. (More news on that to come soon.) Relieved and exhausted, I got in bed and started playing the Dragon Quest VIII remake on 3DS—the first video game I’ve really had time to play in months.

I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with Dragon Quest games. I enjoy almost everything about them—the atmosphere, the humor, the combat—but I’m always frustrated by the sluggish pace and the series’ insistence upon sticking with obsolete features like level-grinding. From what I remembered, though, Dragon Quest VIII was always the best of the bunch. So I expected it to be a nice, relaxing experience. Which is why I nearly broke my 3DS when my main character died to an unlucky critical hit as I was on the third floor of the first dungeon, forcing me to trek all the way back to town because, inexplicably, Dragon Quest VIII doesn’t give you any way to revive dead party members until later in the game. Instead I just turned it off and played Threes.

the non-random encounters make the dungeons much less annoying to navigate. no more showing up to the boss with an exhausted party lol

its also nice that every dungeon has built-in shortcuts so if you do gently caress up on the boss, getting back to it is very quick

Cheers for writing the book, jeers for being bad at Dragon Quest 8. It is a delicate balance I have struck in this post.
