This is very true. You only need a psi specialist once to unlock the psi tree as a materialist right now. This change helps differentiate the empires more, feeling more unique. I like it a lot.

If I understood the dev diary correctly, that's not how it works. If you do not get the DLC, then you can indeed only go the psionics route if your government is spiritual (but because of the new faction system, you can change your government ethics to spiritual if you really want to, and can also change it back after you got the techs). If you have the DLC, you don't need to be spiritual, psionics are unlocked through the ascension perks system. And the story about the shroud is part of the paid content, so you will only get to access it if you buy Utopia. So no need to be spiritual.

I don't mind, I like playing spiritualist empires. But it seems like cybernetics will then be tied to the materialists. Will all the other ethics only get the gene-path? That sounds strange.

I don't know why it bugs me, but I'm never able to go on a real "purge all xeno scum" rampage in Stellaris. I can be extremely evil in CK2, but I can't exterminate those fluffy species in this game. I don't think I will ever use the livestock option.

Yes. The precursor system will have one level 4 or 5 anomaly that has a 0% failure chance and usually gives you a ton of resesrch points for finishing it. Accompanied by a text box for what happened to them. For example that the Cybrex one day just retreated to their ring world and then were later nuked from orbit by races who feared them waking up again.

When you're doing hyperlanes and you only have a few ways to a particular system it's really annoying to see that one of the ships you've built for your fleet has flown into an ether drake for the fourth time because your fleet moved slightly.

It also can also happen with warp drives. Once there was an Ether Drake at just the right distance from my capital that ships would always fly through it's system with level 3 warp drives. I moved my ship productions elsewhere because of it. But I usually play with wormholes, where this problem does not exist. it's one if the reasons why they are my favorite FTL method.

I understand being less excited about Utopia if you expected more from the Ascension paths, but the rest is still pretty amazing.

It's not just the writers. Brandon Sanderson had to write a blog post explaing that difference and why he used the terms correctly in his (fantasy) books.

Considering its always in your interest to do a research agreement with vassals anyway I'd suggest eventually it will be tributaries, vassals, and some sort of semi vassal, like a dominion, that has more leeway than a vassal but less than a tributary.

Which is the whole point? Build a few farms on the planet of the agrarian species you conquered to feed ten other planets that won't have to build a single farm.

Being able to make smaller planets run with only your capital and the frontier clinic was something of a failure in game design to me. Why not remove food and farms entirely? But with global food, you don't even need to dismantle farms anymore that made themselves superfluous through upgrades, you just don'g need to build any for the next few planets you colonize.

Possible bug, I gave the fanatic xenophile FE the data of the dead alien race I scanned, and they wanted to put them into the preserve. But there are only the three normal pops, plus one empty alien preserve tile. Seems like the pop didn't spawn.

Ascendancy perks need to unlock a lot quicker. So far my Fanatic Militarist/Xenophile empire has:

- Conquered a xenophobe fallen empire
- Cock blocked the war in heaven by getting most of the galaxy to join my league of non-aligned worlds
- Squished an unbidden invasion that appeared in the middle of my empire
- Conquered a quarter of the galaxy

And I still only have 2 ascendancy perks. All I want now is to build a ring world so my big dumb empire can retire and go into decline.

I stayed on three worlds a long time (now I'm up to five), filled it with unity and research buildings and just outclassed all other empires. I'm not even close to being able to take on a Fallen Empire, but I have 5 Ascendancy Perks. Don't expect a lot of them if you settle like crazy

I'm usually playing on a lower difficulty, turtling until I've outteched all my opponents and acquired all the unique technologies (psi shields, enigmatic reactors, dragonscale armor etc.). Then I wage limited war to nudge the galaxy into a more interesting direction... only to find out that these assholes have stolen my techs from the few losses I had :argh:

Enigmatic Engineering will be one of the first Ascension Perks I'll take after the update.

Whelp, the hype is over. I was actually super pumped for Cherryh and Apocalypse. I never bought Synthetic dawn, I don't really care for robots. And I never bought the plantoid species pack, it didn't seem necessary. In contrast to CK2, where I admit to having bought every single portrait pack (but none of the troop packs, those were stupid). But was in a really good mood last Friday, looking at the Steam page and seeing the sales. So I wanted to buy Synthetic Dawn, the plantoid pack and even upgrade my game to the Nova edition. I really like the business model of Paradox, so I figured I could toss them 4 Euros, even if I didn't need anything from the Nova pack (the arachnoid is ugly). But then I had bullshit trouble with PayPal, and I couldn't sort it out till today.

Then I open Steam and see that the sale is over. Now I'm super mad at PayPal but also at Paradox. Who ends their sales two days before their new DLC comes out?!? gently caress you so much, PayPal, but also gently caress you, Paradox. I'll never buy any species pack or Synthetic Dawn now, and I'm seriously reconsidering buying Apocalypse. I'll go over the feature list again when I calmed down. Perhaps I will just play the Cherryh update, without giving Paradox any money. This really sucks, because I was so hyped for Stellaris 2.0 :saddowns:
