Same number of full timers they had the last 2 years. They normally get a few 1 offs for Daytona and Sebring that add to the GTLM field for those two races.

Didn't Risi used to run 2 cars?

E: Not recently I guess, I was thinking way back in the 2006 timeframe. They're actually running 2 cars this year too, one in GTLM and one in GTD :sweatdrop:

Doesn't look like any of the factory teams doing both IMSA and WEC (Porsche, BMW, or Ford) are bringing the European cars over to add numbers.

The 1-offs don't have to participate in the Roar, the full timers do. That said, I don't think any of the euro cars will show.

Thought it was a 24 entry, not Roar, my mistake. I think Ford might bring the extra cars, but still....what's the capacity for Daytona? 51 already has to be pushing it.

Close. It's probably the Corvette DP engine just upped the power, and wouldn't be so hard to BoP it is the probably cause to change.

Its a bit uncapped, because they're shooting for a 580bhp performance target, whereas the C7.R gets 491bhp.

I would not be surprised if Caddy goes with the new replacement for the LT5 next year though, especially if the other Prototype teams step up their game. They're cooking up a DOHC V8 project under wraps for their top line Corvette for next year, and what better way to sell a bunch of sports cars than say you're buying a race car engine in your street car?

Its really really cold. Was in the 30's when the session started and its in the 40s now. Teams were looking through the rulebook to see if IMSA had a minimum track temperature rule, even. So like 11 cars that are there haven't run, including the Mazdas.

They started behaving pretty well after the first 15 minutes though, I think it might have been the initial Darwinism of new cold tires in cold conditions. Before that though, there were something like 8 spins. The drinking game is alive and well.

I'm hoping the dominance of the Cadillacs and Orecas is just a side effect of Daytona being a track that favors the torque of the V8s as opposed to the staging of a repeat of last year

The apparent shittiness of the Riley-Multimatic based cars after all the work and hype and Evo kits is especially disappointing

I don’t remember the details offhand but I believe there have been added penalties against sandbagging this year. I think the weather may be a bigger issue.

They're using the lap times at the Roar to determine pit box order for the 24 so there is some incentive to actually try to set honest times. You're definitely right about the weather being a wildcard though.
