For some reason, the default setting of any application that makes a bell sound is to enable the bell sound. This is backwards. The default should be to disable the bell sound.

If you believe that any application providing a bell sound should disable that sound by default, please sign this petition.

I just had to disable the bell sound in intellijvim by creating an intellijvim.rc file and adding some nonsense to it.

All the defaults in Linux are bad because Linux is bad and all the foundational concepts behind Linux are bad. if Linux were not bad the bell would not exist.
