What's your opinion? i've laughed a bit at them but some of the really absurd stuff really doesn't work i think. like the "bad dub" stuff for the asian guy in manborg got old real quick. the cheezy nostalgia in a lot of these films doesn't really do it for me either, like how many times do we have to see a 90's hacker dude with a power glove who talks about the cyberspace

I really really dislike them. Most of the time they have no idea why "so bad they're good" movies are actually good. Kung Fury specifically is a steaming pile of poo poo

Does Black Dynamite count? There's a number of intentional gaffes in homage to the low budget nature of the blaxploitation era.

I think the difference here is those don't go too over-the-top with the absurdity. What they have fits into the genres they're parodying or homaging. Machete Kills is an example of a movie that does go too over-the-top and is way weaker for it imo. Danger 5's first season was pretty good but also went a bit too far at times, especially with the violence.

you can't force a "so bad it's good" movie like Plan 9 or The Room, the badness has to come from the heart. that's what's missing from this new wave of intentionally crappy films

get that OUT of my face posted:you can't force a "so bad it's good" movie like Plan 9 or The Room, the badness has to come from the heart. that's what's missing from this new wave of intentionally crappy films Yeah exactly. When you watch Miami Connection you know the director wanted to make a movie about best friends forever who fight cocaine ninjas and play in a rock band. There's not a hint of irony, and even if the movie is bad it's so earnest in what it's doing that it's amazing. None of the movies coming out now do that, it's just "Haha look how fuckin bad this is! Haha!"

Intentionally bad movies are to me stuff like the Asylum films. Thinks like Kung Fury or Black Dynamite are spoofs, of differing quality.

The movies that general 'get' good bad either good whole-hog stupid with very little irony like Kung Pow or are loving homages like Black Dynamite or Dark Place

This type of movie is probably the most insincere and passionless kind of film there is- slasher, pornography and superhero movies included.

I think stuff like Hobo With A Shotgun where it's bad on purpose because it's saying 'we really loved lovely low budget movies like this' is good, but Kung Fury going check out all these lovely overdone things from the 80s is insanely dull
|
# ? Jan 31, 2017 07:38 |

Hobo With A Shotgun is more like an actual 70s-style exploitation flick than a hollow parody of 70s-style expoitation flicks so I'm willing to give it a pass.

This entire subgenre should have just ended after Kung Pow: Enter the Fist. Like, when it gets to the point where Kung Pow: Enter the Fist is the gold standard that your film is trying to live up to, and failing, you may as well just throw in the towel.

Where would a movie like Bitch Slap land? More parody, or something else? Saw it at a bar a few years back (owner has a rad mix of DVDs). IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1212974/?ref_=nv_sr_1

I like Kung Fury, it's half an hour, which is as long as it needs to be, it's very stupid. I don't get how anyone could hate it but different strokes i guess. Overall though I kind of hate the idea of making ironically lovely movies and I hope it doesnt become much more than a niche thing.

It really depends on if they actually like the stuff they're spoofing and/or have something to say about it. Black Dynamite was great about this, while Kung Fury was like "heres stuff vaguely related to the 80's. They're good, i guess?"

I never understood why anyone would desire to see anything past the first Sharknado. You saw the gimmick, ha ha wow what a crazy thing that the tornado is throwing sharks, good for a laugh. What are they up to now, Sharknado 5? Awful.
