Yeah, there are more porn games made on RPG maker than you can shake a mysterious bulge at, Meltys is just one of the better-known ones mostly since it got an official translation and everything. It's one of those where the stats screen looks like this:

I feel like that's selling video game writers a little short, I've always more gotten the vibe that it's such a different beast to tackle that even being a good book or movie writer doesn't automatically make you a good game writer.

It sounds to me like good writers will simply write good stories, rather than good book and movie writers producing distinctly better video game stories than good video game writers. I feel like the latter should get more credit than they currently do. Anyway, I didn't mean to derail the terrible train or anything.

"Wholesome" no doubt ranks fairly low on most people's porn searches. It's taboo fantasies that make people Maximum Horny and purely fictional works allow for going buck wild with 'em, so as a result games and smut and other such things are filled to the brim with pretty degenerate stuff even by porn standards. Glad I'm not a parent, trying to stop a kid from finding weird porn two decades ago was already all but impossible but in this day and age I can't even imagine how one could ever hope to manage it. Steam's gonna be the least of one's worries on that front.

Also on this topic, everyone's favorite video game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds was actually an enormous hit in Japan as well, despite being a PC exclusive (at the time but also no one has an Xbox there anyway) and a third-person shooter at that. For a while there it even dethroned PS4 and mobile games on Japanese streaming sites. I can't recall anything like that ever happening before. Overall PC gaming has clearly become more of a thing in Japan recently, though there's still the issue of many of the better games on Steam simply not having Japanese versions available. Including many games literally made in Japan.
