does anyone know if you have to actually be a member to attend these new members events? I kinda wanted to poke my head into one before committing to anything.

DSA East Bay meeting was great. At least 100 people showed up to vote, i'd say it was over 150 but i'm terrible at estimating such things so i'm just gonna lowball it. I had to bail at the lunch break but they opened the general meeting with a speech by the CNA spokesperson who pointed out that CA dems are full of poo poo on the single payer bill. The assembly's speaker killed the bill saying it wasn't complete but the missing parts are literally waiting to be added in at the health committee which the assembly refused to give the bill to.

From the candidates and group sessions it seems like in 2018 east bay is going to push candidates of their own forward which is great because gently caress the democratic party forever

I'm claiming that I think this argument is a little ridiculous because it's like 100 posts about the name an NPC slate already chose for a specific policy position and whether or not that's "good branding" or whatever as if that's going to change it. If the concern really is this highly idiosyncratic detail in an already somewhat specialized area of knowledge putting off normies the cat's already out of the bag. Because we're not a centralist organization, locals can and will choose labels for causes which can cause bad PR, and capitalist media already isn't in our corner. I think we're going to have to just face that this is a pill we need to swallow from time to time.

And I'm not going to stop calling them NPC candidates because that's what Praxis is in this context, and also there's just something about the phrase "NPC slates" that really tickles me, I dunno.

would we really be socialists if we didnt quibble over the little details
