The women's march was good, met lots of people interested in DSA and got them pamphlets n signed up for stuff. The only counter protest I saw was one dude wearing a shirt saying something about women belong in the kitchen or something but that was it.

We were walking to a booth we had set up for after the march when we walked past him. He saw our signs and said something like "Democratic Socialists? You're next" which I don't think he even knew what he was saying. I guess he wanted to see us later and trigger us?

There's no income requirement for which dues to pay, it operates on the honor system. If paying dues at a certain level could put you in a bad spot in the near future, go ahead and do the low income option. I'm sure there are also members in your chapter who will help pay for dues if necessary.

If I were in your spot, I'd do the $27 tier, and when employment is a bit more stable, do the $45 tier or the monthly payment plan.

Also, before I forget regarding credit card fees. DSA raises money using ActBlue, which sucks because it's at its heart a Democratic Party PAC and their rates are actually kind of lovely. However, the way they have it set up is actually better for small donations, they charge a flat 4% percent so DSA would end up getting $9.96 $9.60 from a 10 dollar donation.

The one losing money is actually probably ActBlue in this scenerio, because their gateway provider probably charges a percentage plus a flat fee. Industry standard is 2.9 percent plus 30 cents, and if they've negotiated part of it down its probably the percentage rather than the fee. I'd assume they're losing around 30 cents on each of these donations.

There's one floating around that was started by a rumored anti-union teacher so I'd hesitate backing that one until we find out more.

Also it looks like we're gonna have to go on chapo

Hey the OK teacher's strike is very exciting for us and worth supporting but I'd hesitate to donate any money just yet. It's not very clear who the organizers are and how the money will be spent. We're hearing from some teachers that the main organizers are anti-union and that there's a split across party lines. As well, there was previously an effort to hijack activist efforts to try and pressure the Democratic caucus to support the Republican regressive tax plan over a similar issue (btw there's an insane amendment in our constitution that requires a supermajority for any revenue increase so that is partially why we are dying a horrible painful death.) We're doing our research here and likely setting up a solidarity fund to help replace school lunches but we're trying to get in touch with the rank and file first.

I've heard people rationalize it by saying Liz is personally anti choice but she doesn't care if someone else is pro choice which isn't great.

But they rationalize it because Liz is at a big boy paper saying positive stuff about socialism

He's white, blonde, hair, no older than 20, and looks as autistic as you can possibly imagine. He begins by telling us that he is new and this is his first meeting. The question he asks is "I believe I heard that *insert Mexican-American candidate who spoke earlier's name* said that she was once a business owner. Why do we allow people to come in here and speak if they are part of the bourgeois class? We are a socialist party and should stick to our socialist values and shouldn't show such candidates support." Needless to say, while he was speaking EVERYONE was looking down on the floor. The two guys I mentioned previously got up and said "I want to punch you in the face!" and "I'm quitting my membership. You guys are nutcases!" and walked off. The kid who spoke sat back down and didn't seem self-aware of how much of a dumbass he made himself look.
