Rather than make me laugh, that interview made me reflect on the ethics of watching a sport in which brain injury is a goal post.

Almost every major sport that has any kind of contact at all is going to lead to some brain damage. While i agree that its hard to watch poo poo like that, concussions occur in pretty much everything except baseball and even then the occasional guy gets domed.

There is basically no way to make most sports, especially combat sports, brain safe.

Anyone have any idea how much weight fighters cut the night before weight-ins? Is it usually a pound or two at that point?

The day/night before they're doing the biggest part of the cut. The idea is you minimize the time you're dehydrated. A natural body builder I used to work with that did similar cuts would shed around 15-20 lbs of water (mostly through pissing) the day/night before a competition so that he would have the best stage look. That's a little under a 10% cut but he dieted down to around 230ish before the water cut.

I doubt Joe Silva is a billionaire, but he definitely has 8 zeros of net worth after the sale.

Last page chat, but i don't think its unreasonable that Joe Silva got 2-3% of the payout plus whatever he had been putting away for years. I think he's probably under 250m at this point, but would not be remotely surprised to see him north of 100m in net worth.

How do you come up with that number? Was he an investor? Why would an employee be given that large of an ownership share?

Lots of bad business theories itt lately.

I don't think its unreasonable at all to believe that Joe Silva, the man responsible for most of the success the UFC had over the past 20 years, had some equity given to him at some point. It's pretty common, even in closely held businesses like Zuffa, LLC, to give equity as a bonus or a part of the pay structure. Reports were that Silva got a massive payout as a part of the WME purchase, which would indicate some sort of equity. The bulk of the $4 billion obviously went to Frank and Lorenzo, but I have no doubt in my mind that Joe Silva had some equity in the company. It's not at all crazy to imagine 2-3%.

Skip My Posts posted:

supposedly he was given equity very early on before their value blew up, any number is just a guess at how much though. He wasn't just any random employee he was an executive that helped build the company in a huge way

Exactly. Before the WEC merger, Silva was the only matchmaker and still ran 155+ after Shelby came on board to run the smaller divisions. Silva personally extended himself massively in the early days and was one of the only SEG employees kept on when the Fertittas bought the UFC. Joe Silva is probably more responsible for the success of the company than Dana or Lorenzo, but it was all behind the scenes so only nerds like us give a drat about him.

It hasn't sold out because the prices were set for two title fights but one is a rematch and the other is a fake belt to designate the next person Conor McGregor is going to duck.

As prices drop they'll fill it up.

The first part of the video Hardy is trying to explain the punch and where it's coming from, but that's just a sambo thing. While it's not exactly the same as fedor's winging hooks, it has the same purpose. It serves a double purpose that if the punch doesn't land exactly right you'll end up with your arm around your opponent and grab a clench. Here's a video that kindof breaks it down. While Khabib's is slightly different than Fedor's style, it's the same style.

I wouldnt be suprised that Hunt retires after a win or loss. Dude is getting up there regardless.

I dont think Conor will ever fight the interim belt holder because they're going to fight GSP after he beats mcgregor.
