I think they'll bullshit a way to survive until Seattle has an active plan for an arena. Because gently caress Quebec is why.

Coyotes to Seattle, second expansion team to Quebec. Balance is restored.
Or maybe the other way around? Whichever.

It depends on Arizona. My take on the situation is as follows:
- If they keep going, expansion will go to Seattle and Quebec will have to wait for one of the struggling Eastern teams to relocate for a return.
- If they keep going for another year (like if they announce the 17-18 season will be their last), the Coyotes will go to Quebec and second expansion will go to Seattle.
- If they keep going until after Seattle has a new arena plan in place, Seattle will get the Coyotes and Quebec will probably get screwed in favour of someone else.

My bet is on the third option.
I think the NHL desperately wants to be in Seattle, and is leery of putting another team in Quebec due to it's size and status as "l'fier fief de la francophonie".

Losing ASU sucks but until the coyotes say something there's still all the cities minus glendale, plus shacking up with the suns. And as a minor note, ASU still needs an arena that's not the local hockey rink with some bleachers bolted on.

Funny story: The city council and mayor's offices have gone full turbo retard in the last two weeks-two months and AEG is smelling blood :homebrew: in the water and, yes, yet again - they're doing another, another, ANOTHER loving study to see how to get Key Arena renovated despite Chris Hansen/Nordstroms/Russell Wilson saying they will no-joke 100% privately finance the SODO arena.

We're gonna gently caress it up. The city admin is trying so hard to gently caress it up. There's so much back room palm greasing and sneaky bullshit going on between The Mariners, The Port of Seattle, The Seattle Times and City Council & Mayor & AEG it's loving bullshit.

There is like zero chance "The Port is a cesspool of corruption... but I'm voting for them caaaaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuuuse..." Kshama Sawant doesn't get reelected cause lol we gerrymandered into districts last election cycle with no public input. (We used to be able to vote on all seats of city council - WHOOPS that's gone)

And especially with you-know-who the president I seriously doubt anyone currently on the council has to worry with how Seattle votes. :sigh: I hope, though. I'mma keep hoping.

It just blows my mind how much bullshit the Mariners, Times and Port keeps blowing up their rear end and they buy it. SODO is quite literally the perfect place for an arena, what with it being zoned for arenas and having all mass transit route through there (unlike Key Arena, which barely has any moving traffic going through there any hour of the day.) :sigh: x2

Let's be real here: the staggering failure of the Coyotes in Glendale combined with their current performance on the ice wouldn't make a city council think "yeah, this plan to pump >$350million into an arena looks like a good idea". Maybe someone will find a way to get it done, but it'd have to be a right person, right place kinda thing.

Dalton Prout is the #8 defenseman on the depth chart and can't stay on the ice because Torts doesn't want him there. If they get a depth dman at the Deadline, they're almost going to have to put him on waivers WE'RE SO CLOSE, CBAS. :ohdear:

Also, why do I have a weird feeling Jarmo's going to pull a deal for Duchene out of his rear end like he did Gaborik in the "Where the hell did that come from?" department?

Glendale was literally the worst possible place for the coyotes to be. It's surrounded by farmland and the only highway by it goes around phoenix. I live in phoenix basically straight east of it and it's a half hour drive one way because glendale wants to be a lovely small town with 25 mph speed limits. The cardinals are only successful there because football has way fewer games that are mostly on a sunday afternoon and the team has been really good recently. There's still people who get season tickets and sell everything except the green bay game they want to go to or whatever, and you see the same thing with coyotes tickets except there's 10x more games and they have to play teams that nobody in phoenix cares about. On top of that glendale got completely fleeced by the coyotes and they're probably going to get stuck with their pyramid in the desert because of their own stupid decisions about escrow and maintenance and whatever else i can't think of off the top of my head.

The ASU deal sounded great because they would end up with an arena and tempe ends up with an arena for concerts and another shopping center that's not a lovely strip mall. I don't really know what ASU is thinking by agreeing and then pulling out but a lot of people were scratching their heads that they didn't take their wad of cash and fix up their basketball arena and also put the ice making equipment in there.

Most of the opposition is classic "more money for me, gently caress you" but why is The Port so against it? How does the port benefit without an arena?

I wanted Frankie to do well really badly but I can't say he distinguished himself over guys like Marincin or Carrick. Shame that Babcock just has to play Roman Polak but it's hard to see Corrado being more than a 6/7 guy.

I don't know if Marchenko is any better but hopefully some familiarity will give him a better shot than Corrado had.

~~~No Worries~~~
As much as I'd love a team in Seattle, as it's very close to me and I love visiting there, I honestly have doubts one would do well there. Especially because if Seattle does get a new arena, the city will care more about getting the Sonics back than anything else. Never struck me as much of a hockey town, and I've grown up my whole life in their media market. I hope I'm wrong, of course, but I have real doubts (sorry Duke Chin please don't be mad at me). I'm just envisioning an NHL team competing with the Seahawks/Mariners/Sounders/Huskies/return of NBA team and getting hosed. I think Portland might be a better target market for the NHL in the PNW
