Deanna Werthauer, Voodont (witchcraft) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9p1Yj28uts There are bunches of student thesis films out there and student films backed by animation schools (like Gobelins mentioned earlier.) Though most don't get as weird or vulgar as Spike & Mike fare. I liked Voodon't dark punchline a bunch. Dima Fedutov, Fortress and its sequel Last Day of War (all CG, apocalyptic) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKmZnIHzldk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiuVInSnTZs

Very well animated pieces! While a mix of animation and stock footage, I did find the quality of the animation in this video to be pretty neat - here is Freak of the Week by Freak Kitchen (directed by Juanjo Guarnido): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2vzBdIejVY

Animated documentary about some medical oddities and grotesque models and tools, helmed by the quay Brothers https://vimeo.com/216343025 I like the lack of didactic explanation of the history around these objects, just creating little movements and intimations of their application via their stop motion animation. Cool little piece

Loving these shorts (and that collection is impressive)! In response to the post-apocalyptic shorts, I found this 1959 instructional film about surviving nuclear fallout. Produced by the US Office of Civil Defense, this short bears a rather perky mid-century style that contrasts the gravity of nuclear fallout. Here now is Fallout: When And How To Protect Yourself https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yE-nji8-1Ko

Felix Colgrave makes some fun and weird animation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_MSFkZHNi4 Something a LOT more sick and twisted is KUSO. Sorry for only posting a trailer but I think you get the idea. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDRYASntddo David Shrigley makes animation for KUSO and he is one of the most dark and twisted animators I know. Felix Colgrave seems like he should be the patron saint of this thread. (Spike & Mike are deities, obv.) Felix Colgrave, Last Resort ( language/slurs) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVLq-pqbWgE This is the first thing of his I recall, way back in Newgrounds days. Also I bring the freshest of animated beats: Leningrad (featuring Gluk’oZа), Ju-Ju (violent scifi, Russian, probably for blood) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-GQDCtt1Vk

Good video, but Shrigley isn't the right David for Salad Fingers, you're thinking of David Firth. Wouldn't be surprised if it had already been posted but here's the entire hour of Salad Fingers that exists currently. David Firth's Salad Fingers, episodes 1 - 10

A question for a change of pace: I'm trying to recall the name of a brief cartoon that was part of Spike & Mike's film (when I saw it in a theater forever ago). Featured two kids/young adults basically stealing beer and then going on a car chase, blowing themselves up by hitting a semitruck transporting a missile, and going to hell. Style was kind of a much more distorted beavis/butthead and from about the same era as No Neck Joe/Frog Baseball. I cannot recall its name and I cannot find it on any filmography for Spike & Mike's animation. Anyone know it or what I'm talking about?

Oh man, I know exactly which one you're talking about, because I remember seeing it back in the day. I'm digging around the Wiki and online for it, which is going to take some time as most of the Spike and Mike content has been removed from YouTube. I did find this potato quality VHS rip of one of the compilations, so please enjoy while I search for the aforementioned short. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4p-YXNu44U Artsygrrl fucked around with this message at 00:25 on May 22, 2018 |

18 Character Limit posted:Friday night. Time for some [implied] horror. Oh this poor animation. I like a lot about it(well, visually it's good, the plot is a little... Kind of dumb? 'The security guard isn't doing his job good' would probably be met with 'nobody cares, timmy') but that animator needs to hire a voice actor who's actually an old guy like the guy he drew, gently caress, just get his dad to do it. Whoever did that voice acting, they do not, at any point, sound like an angry middle aged man, they only ever sound like, fittingly, a college student who needs to learn to clear his dang throat before he does a take so we don't hear his mouth get audibly phlegmy by the end. I'm being an rear end about this, but there's so many YouTube dumbasses that ruin their own content by trying to do their own voiceacting that it's a pet peeve. I want to like Night Mind(i love dumb internet lectures on inane poo poo) but every time I listen to him talk I picture a fat guy using his 'deep radio voice' that his mom told him was sexy. TL:DR horror literally needs good sound design, whether it's voice acting or actual sound effects.

It would be nice to see some of the more 'half finished in art school' shorts get a fancy revamp, but admittedly some of them sell really well due to the crude nature of their construction. With that in mind, I still cannot understand how a company as big as Blizzard chose to use what sounded like 'Ted from the accounting office down the hall' as a voice actor for the male Night Elf player voice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sN8ZND-8YLM Today I bring a short which I had originally seen on a VHS compilation from the library (like someone else in the comments, it was The International Tournee of Animation Volume 2 - that video got around!). Linking because it's very humor. Some of the jokes have not aged well or are downright problematic, but that tends to happen with stand-up comedians. Here now is Drawing On My Mind (1985) featuring the humor of the late George Carlin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5ZkQLHiXyU

Every now and then YouTube pops up with a surprise. This time, it's a show based on an old SNL sketch. I knew about the live action Coneheads movie with Chris Farley, but never knew that Rankin/Bass took an animated stab at it back in 1983. It's bland and weird, but I had to post the clip somewhere for posterity. Enjoy the laugh track, too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imvgc8-nRlM Weirdly enough, I recognize a bunch of stuff that they wound up using in the movie.
