Nonviolent J posted:I was gonna post and say wow noone mentioned principal and the pauper but ding ding there it is Principal and the Pauper is a good piss take on long running sitcoms pulling stuff out of their asses in later seasons, but it does mark the point where Simpsons stopped being creative and began regressing.

Most of Nielsen's collaborations with the Zucker Abrahams Zucker team are excellent. They basically do machine gun comedy; if one joke doesn't stick, don't worry because you just missed the next three that flew by while you were thinking about the first one. The Naked Gun films are their best. "You call this slop! Real slop has chunks in it! This is just gruel! And this Chateau Le Blanc '63 is supposed to be served slightly chilled! This is room temperature!"

The only good joke in the Rodney Dangerfield episode was when he starts talking to himself and then realizes what he was doing.

The worst tree house of horror sketch is easily the kodos and Kang avatar ripoff. Either that or the one where Homer gets paralyzed by a spider.

I watched the Simpsons Futurama crossover episode. It was so bad that being in proximity to the Simpsons made the Futurama parts actively worse.

get that OUT of my face posted:always good to see this thread bumped and full of new posts Like the Simpsons this thread will never die. There is always more and it is always worse. It really says something about Futurama that there's really only one season that is generally bad, the one that came out after the DVD specials. Once that speed bump was crossed the show got good again, but most importantly, it actually ended. Even the original run's cancellation finale was great. The writers gave a poo poo which is more than can be said about the Simpsons.

The majority of the bad new episodes are in season 6, but it definitely evened out for season 7. The series finale where Leela and Fry spend their whole life wandering across a time frozen earth was great.

Homer At The Bat is the classic example of how guest stars were treated if they were playing themselves, and it was great. Lord Palmerston! Pitt the Elder! LORD PALMERSTON! PITT THE ELDER!

My sister the sitter is hilarious. Bart being the father of all jackasses to rile up Lisa was great.

Meanwhile the greatest moment in Simpsons history is the scene in Homer badman where they watch television and gentle Ben attacks the audience while Kent Brockman hoists up a bill to make TV polls legally binding.

Futurama did its bizarre anime segment better, and old simpsons "japanimation" sketch was hilarious. But the pokemon go thing is just sad.

berth ell pup posted:I contend the Deep Space Homer (s5) is the first truly bad simpsons episode. The premise is contrived, and they guest voices (aldrin?) were poorly done. Some people just can't be voice actors. I bet it took 100 takes to get a suitable "Careful! They're rippled!" and the one they used is still pretty bad. Buzz Aldrin's guest appearance on Futurama was fine.

Cobweb Heart posted:Humiliated by his inability to escape beer, coffee, and finally Moe's lemonade stand, Barney once again begs Homer for help kicking his drinking habit. This time, they drive to Seth and Munchie's to try the hippie duo's new kombucha blend. But disaster strikes when Homer himself becomes addicted to the teas instead, going through so many he becomes even fatter than when he was drinking Duff. When Barney forces him to attend a hippie seminar for "kombuchaholics" he wanders next door and meets Radiohead who introduce him to the wonders of UrbEx. But disaster strikes when Homer and the whole band disappears into the power plant silos. Meanwhile Marge gets a crush on Grace Jones. This one has to be real.

Bart the Fink is a great loving episode. I like all the little jokes when the IRS takes over the Krusty Burger, and they've got separate waste bins for Gross Refuse and Net Refuse. Or the phone bidder from Japan buying all Krusty's porn for twelve cents, or Comic Book Guy gearing up for a Doctor Who marathon eight years before it became relevant in the USA. Bart goes to the eye doctor to get tested and looks into a Phoropter that teleports him to the future. His only way home is to find a time traveling dog and apologize to a girl he made fun of in the waiting room. Guest starring Cathy Bates as herself.
