I lived near MO at the time and am almost positive we got the "Northern Kentucky" version. I definitely would have remembered if that was what they'd said since speculation about what state Springfield was actually in was still a pretty big deal back then.

There was a contest among like 6 or 8 Springfields to, if I remember correctly, have the premiere or a special screening or something. I lived in one of them at the time and scored a Simpsons movie poster that says “filmed on location in Springfield, [state]!” Which is mildly interesting to have. I don’t know which city won in the end.
