For all their size difference, I think Carrick is better at most physical parts of a D-man's game than Polak. Playing in front of the net, knocking someone off the puck, etc.

It's interesting because one thing that Carrick mentioned when he was scratched earlier in the year was that the coaches wanted him to be smarter about when he chose to engage physically. He's not bad at it but that might be why he was doing it too often. Roman Polak just sucks at everything, his physicality is entirely shoving dudes after whistles.
