Pony: Zeke
Poison: Cirie

Zeke seems like the type of person who would be aware of his mistakes and correct them. He's capable enough as a challenge guy to last the early rounds but not good enough to be a threat. And nobody really knows much about him.

Cirie is a massive social threat of which everyone is fully aware and I can't imagine that age is helping her out any when it comes to tribe challenges. Whatever team she's on, I think she's first out as soon as they go to tribal. It makes too much sense.

If I was going to pick a second pony, it would be Caleb. He would have a huge target in any first run season because he's in great shape, but he'll be behind Malcolm and Ozzy in terms of challenge threats.

Michele is just completely average. She's not bad, not exceptional. She's a competent game player but not anything revolutionary. I wouldn't say she was undeserving but I also don't think she would've been in any way slighted by not winning. She was there and okay and it is what it is.

I mean, I feel bad for mentally ill people and she came off that way. So in the big picture I hope she gets help if she needs it and lives well. But within the context of the show, I hate her. She lost her poo poo and lashed out at people because she felt bad that she hosed up the challenge and couldn't own it. So instead she rewrote reality and attacked others to make herself feel better. That sucks.

I hope Brandon Hantz is doing better now and has gotten help, but when I watched him on TV he was a creepy rear end in a top hat.

It sucks and you shouldn't let "crazy" people on Survivor if you think they might actually be mentally ill even if they seem funny. So instead lets relive the majesty of Sandra vowing revenge on JT and then in a matter of days more or less orchestrating him getting himself voted out by eating some sugar and instilling so much confidence in him that he went from desperately looking for an idol to being so confident he leaves his idol at camp in a couple of days.

In fairness, Debbie, at worst, was Lady Coach last time. This was a whole different level. And man I loving dislike her now. She reminds me of Elegant Elliott Offen from Howard Stern.

When that confessional teased Jeff revealing it, I really figured it was a nod to the super fans, for lack of better phrasing here, because I thought there was no way in hell anyone would actually do that, especially a gay man, but Jesus loving Christ.

I would've had to walk away for fear of punching that dumb gently caress. I'm still mad like 15 minutes later. Jesus Christ.

The thing that killed me was how he tried to act like it was some spur of the moment lovely decision when he'd clearly been planning on doing it.

Varner is just a selfish rear end and he always has been. I was somewhat surprised he stooped to this level but after taking time to digest it, I'm really not all that that shocked.

Did anyone else think it was kind of cute when Sarah said that there are no gay/lesbian/transgendered people in her conservative community? You keep on thinking that, champ.

I took it less as her saying that and more as her saying it's not something she's really had to deal with because areas like that keep themselves really insulated from that stuff. And living in the Midwest, she's not wrong. Are there people in her community that are LGBT? Very likely so. Does that mean it's something she's had to openly deal with or confront until that TC? No.

She's a midwestern cop. There's every reason in the world to think she wouldn't be progressive and she probably spends the majority of her time around people who aren't and she sat there and realized how much better of a person she is for being able to recognize someone for who they really are. That's a cool moment regardless of all the other poo poo and a little bit of naivety doesn't ruin that.

I thought that was one of the best moments of the episode and I'm surprised at all the hurr durrr Sarah stuff

Truther Vandross
Jun 17, 2008

Despite what he did last night, Jeff really does advocate for LGBT issues and surely has transgender friends so I don't think it's unreasonable at all to think someone with that background would be able tell, especially considering the obvious scarring consistent with transitioning that Zeke displays.

Someone who isn't well versed in it isn't going to pick up on it, but it makes total sense to me that Varner would put it together.

I watched it again and now I can't stop thinking about how much Sarah reminds me of Millie from Freaks and Geeks.

 Varner blaming the edit

https://parade.com/562813/joshwigler/survivor-game-changers-jeff-varner-exit-interview/

quote:

They had to do what they had to do and it had to be the way it had to be. There were things that were edited out that would have explained things a bit better. As much as I was dreading my emotional breakdown — I melted down for an hour, and all of that was edited out. Every single person at that Tribal with the exception of Sarah stood up and hugged me and forgave me and told me they know it’s not in my heart. All of that is edited out.

quote:

But because Tribal was edited down so small, you don’t see that. Editing connected dots that weren’t connected in reality in that moment, and I get why they did that and had to do that. But I was arguing the deception of the alliance. There was a hidden alliance. You don’t see the conversation I had with Ozzy where he told me he was in an alliance with Zeke and Andrea. That’s where I got the idea to use that secret alliance as a tool. Editing doesn’t show any of that. You don’t really get it.

Look, I'm not saying Varner is or is not an rear end in a top hat, but he does give an interview here (http://ew.com/tv/2017/04/13/survivor-jeff-varner-zeke-transgender-game-changer/) where he explains his thought process, and while he's was incredibly dumb and short sighted, you can sort of see how he decided to do what he did: the tl,dr is that he never got to watch Millenials since the seasons were filmed back to back, so he assumed that 1) Zeke was obviously out and the producers were going to build their marketing around their first trans player 2) Zeke was some kind of evil Russell Hanz villain mastermind who would do and lie about anything to win. It did not occur to Varner that Zeke would want to be seen as an individual instead of as his gender identity.

Again, he's a loving idiot, but if he's actually thinking of killing himself mabe he's paid penance enough.

Ultimately, all of this poo poo is making me think there's a larger, deeper issue with Jeff Varner that has come to a head with this incredibly stupid decision.

Fair enough. But "someone said it on Survivor Sucks Forums" was an awful source originally.

That can not be said enough. There was a person on Sucks who was convinced Varner found out because he's gay so he must have been checking out Zeke's package and realized he did not have one.

They really can't stop it because, sadly, there's no way to guarantee it wouldn't have worked within the game.

I get the circumstance and what happened was super lovely, but I don't agree with the idea that production should've interfered.

Even Zeke himself admitted he was prepared that it could come out at some point, albeit surely not in the manner it ended up coming out.
