First Job: Escorting a Trade Caravan
Crew: Lucretius, Havhal, Kosyan, Diirge, Relraf, me

I was excited for my first real job for the League - no more exterminating rats in damp basements! Job was to escort the caravan of one Mr Faro Fungaries to its destination, claiming he'd been beset upon by kobolds on his recent travels on that route. Lemonil warned us he was "eccentric" when in reality he was an arsehole not a very nice person, especially towards Diirge and me. Three carts. Faro tells us two are decoys, but not which one is real. We split up among all three. Bad idea in hindsight - should've stuck together on middle cart.

So we came across some sort of what we suspected to be some sort of magical barrier up ahead on the road. Decision between trying to forge towards it or wait for the inevitable ambush we chose the latter. Again, being spread out was not the best decision. The brunt of the attack targeted the first cart. Had some beefy tough guys and powerful wizards among their number. Almost managed to take out Kosyan and Lucretius for good. Fortunately we managed to rally, but it was really, really close. Those kobolds were not your regular craven nuisances. They seemed almost crazed as they assaulted the caravan. In the end, their leader and one of their wizards tried to flee. I caught something the wizard shouted in Draconic and told the others to get him alive and they did.

The interrogation proved easy enough and more in line with usual behaviour. We got the location of their hideout and their number. He also talked about them wanting to steal more "good waters" and "things that make things go boom" from the caravan. From the latter, we suspected Fungaries of smuggling illegal explosives. The "good waters" I thought the kobold was talking about healing potions or something like that since he mentioned some of them being "sick".

In the meantime, we discovered that the rear wagon of the caravan was the real target and had been thoroughly ransacked while we were fighting. The side of the wagon was blasted open with what we assumed were some of the supposed illegal explosives. Then the captive kobold started flipping out. Suspected of being in withdrawal from some sort of drug. He threatened Fungaries for more of "the water", fueling our suspicion of him. We confronted the trader, but of course he denied any wrongdoing. After securing the kobold in a more violent manner than I would have liked, we decided to tie up Fungaries, too, lest he flee now that we were openly suspecting him of serious crimes.

We then made our way to the cave the kobolds were hiding in. In a small room near the entrance, two beefy kobolds were sleepily standing guard over their most recent steal. Dirge and - I forget who it was - tried to sneak past them and get the chest of wares back without a fight, but they failed and we had to take them out the hard way. We knew from our captive the rest of them - 15 to be exact - would be sleeping at the back of the cave with the other loot from previous caravans. We debated if we dared to take them on in a fight. In the end, we were more interested in gathering more evidence of Faro's wrongdoing than actually looting the place. So Dirge attempted to sneak in and sneak back out with one of the crates. Again, failure and fighting ensued. Credit to Lucretius for setting one of the kobolds aflame in the middle of the narrow cave entrance, spreading the flame to the others running by - took out a lot of the weaker ones on its own. Some of the stronger kobolds were seemingly under some magical or alchemical effect and literally exploded upon death. In the end, we prevailed against that and superior number and, in a way, it felt not as close as the encounter on the road.

Inspecting the recovered crates, we discovered a lot of a beserk tonic and a number of magic wands that "make things go boom". In our estimation, enough drinks to supply a decently sized mob and enough magic to level at least a city quarter with. When throwing around some estimate of their worth, some of us seemed to contemplate selling it off on our own, but fortunately some talking to them made them reconsider. After all this was important evidence and too dangerous to be left in circulation.

We returned to the caravan and set out to our destination, intending to apprehending the prospective buyer and delivering them, Faro, and the evidence to the authorities. As it turned out, the whole thing seemed to have been a setup to get Fungaries anyway and we gladly turned over the crates and Faro himself. While the reward was a bit on the small side considering the dangers we had to go through, I am proud we did the right thing. Erathis blessed us in our judgment to uphold the law she gave us and removed an evil threat to what order remains in these turbulent days.

Some thoughts on the crew:
My first time out with these guys. We worked together pretty well. We were lucky we had so many ways to heal and inspire ourselves to keep going between Havhal, Relraf, me and even Dirge. Some of the tricks Dirge can do with his crossbow go well with my fighting style - something to keep in mind should we get on a contract together again. Some of the groups seemed a bit too prone to violent in the treatment of our captive and almost too greedy when we discovered the stolen contraband. In the end, the righteous way prevailed through words and reason, though.

Reflections on myself:
Need to work on my fighting - whiffed a whole lot of my attacks. Maybe consider a greatspear? Definitely more serious sparring than just stabbing at air or a dummy. Conduct was a sticking point for Lady Lemonil and I tried to do her proud (even if it all was a ruse in the end). Tried to treat our captive humanely and not antagonize Faro too much without hard evidence of his wrongdoings. In the cave with the contraband when we were arguing what to do with it, I threatened to bite off the hands of anyone who thought take some of it for themself. Was that me just playing tough or did the nasty side of my draconian heritage break through again? I need to meditate on this and pray to Erathis to keep me on the right path. Overall satisfied with my own conduct, combat performance needs to improve, though.

e: Whoa, that turned out a whole lot longer than intended.

Note to myself:
Need to work on my writing - wrote a whole lot of words. Maybe consider an editor?

Second Job: An Alchemist needs Help with Thieves
Crew: Sh00mb-0, Relraf, Benny, Lucretius, me

This job turned out mostly straightforward - in no small part thanks to Benny's talents. The gnoll's got a nose for tracking which saved us quite some time. We traveled down to Durdun to assist one Ms. McMannon, an alchemist and proprietor of a store for alchemical and magical item, with her thief problem. Despite her best magical and other countermeasures, the thieves managed to put her to sleep and make off with various items. The most important one being Demonic Ichor, a substance that will open one's mind and soul to the Primordial Plane - she told us - and can be used to make the Beserk Powder we had learned to hate on the caravan job. Among the stolen things were also certain crystals used in creating magic wands. Those two make me think there might be a connection to Faro Fungaries - maybe the thieves were his suppliers?

Despite all their magic, the thieves didn't count on someone like Benny who literally sniffed around and tracked them to a tavern called The Wizard's Gizzard. The doorman would only let you in with a codeword. Benny tried to fool him, but was rebuked and almost got his head blown off by an explosive rune for trying. In response, he bashed down the door and the fight was on. We fought a trio of bandits in the doorway while their leader and a bunch of archers pelted us from the inside. When we finally pushed into the tavern itself, we found even more archers and THAT thing. It was a weird floating mass of tentacles which sort of looked like a giant jellyfish with a jelly wizard hat. Scary as it was, I fatigued and dazzled it with my psionic power as the rest of the group dealt with the archers before joining me in taking that abomination down. It exploded into lightning and light. It was a long and exhausting fight and had it not ended when it did, we might have perished, but Erathis and Kord smiled upon us.

In the end, we recovered our wounds and brought the Demonic Ichor back to Ms. McMannon and Lemonil - who strangely enough wanted some, too. We got a fine small reward and access to Ms. McMannon's wares which I shall peruse once I got some more coin in my pouch. For now, everything but some basic potions are well outside my price range. I'll keep at it and save up enough for something nice!

Thoughts on the crew:
Lucretius and Relraf I already knew. Relraf was a lifesaver at the end. Without him, the monster would have taken Sh00mb-0 and Lucretius with it to the other side. Sh00mb-0 proved to be talented and certainly has a future in this line of work. Benny... I have conflicting feelings about. His tracking and fighting are superb, but he is so... feral. I wish I get the opportunity to work alongside him more and help him get that side of his under control just like I did.

Reflections on myself:
Very satisfied with my performance. Sparring has paid off. Particularly proud of my performance against the tentacle monster. Was on my best behaviour the whole time, too.
